GOP revamps 2004 election strategy
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 08:37 AM by ozymandius
(Washington) The scramble for a new Republican 2004 election strategy has moved from trot to full gallop. A computer disk containing a presentation was discovered on a Washington, D.C. sidewalk in June of 2002. Its contents, detailed election strategy for the mid-term and 2004 elections, have saved Democrats much of the guesswork on where their Republican opponents will focus their campaign message.

A White House aide apparently dropped the disk at a bus stop where the disk was recovered and placed into the hands of Roll Call, a congressional newspaper. The information was then shared fully with Democratic congressional members and disseminated over the Internet.

This means that the Republican Party campaign leadership, namely Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Marc Racicot and Karl Rove, must rework its strategy in advance of the looming 2004 elections.

Gone from the party plank is the insistance that Republicans are singularly capable to manage the war on terrorism. GOP candidates are encouraged to align themselves with the president's policies (conceivably the president's donors too) with Gingrich-ite furvor. Faith-based initiatives are also getting the old heave-ho as several lawsuits appear poised to evaporate all momentum and send the initiative to a whimpering death.

There was a little rumbling concerning what to do with Attorney General John Ashcroft's proposal to establish internment camps and stripping citizens of their constitutional rights. Some party insiders have suggested experimenting with this program ahead of the 2004 elections, calling it a Republican initiative to protect the American family. To this goal, Republican insiders cite test cases of "enemy combatants" Jose "dirty bomber" Padilla and Yasser Esam Hamdi.

With a wink and a nudge, GOP consultant Scott Reed has issued a press release stating that Republicans always intended for this information to fall into the Democrats hands. "This was just a way to catch them (Democrats) off guard. Think of it as a bait-and-switch strategy."

The short list of campaign issues includes:
(1) focus on war happiness and tax cuts;
(2) strong teamwork between White House, political committees and sycophants;
(3) claim that uncomfortable history has been "fully vetted";
(4) pressure broadcast outlets to hire more Republican crotch-sniffing hosts;
(5) Prosecute Bill Clinton for Halliburton, WorldCom, Enron, Tyco, Harken Energy, Adelphia and Imclone malfeasance;
(6) declare another war on swarthy people.

Despite Reed's jovial assurances, members of the Republican party across the country are taking this strategic breach seriously enough to rethink their campaign messages. Even the information published in this article could scandalize Republican candidates. RNC chairman Marc Racicot has said that future campaign notes will be classified under "executive priviledge".

Rove says that the paramount goal of the Republican party is to pave the way for Bush's re-election campaign. "Of course we have the president's long-term interests in mind. If everything goes as planned - the American people will have no choice but to vote for President Bush."

Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 08:49 AM by deminflorida
like a sore thumb.....

(1) focus on war happiness and tax cuts;

http://www.deanforamerica.com/site/PageServer?pagename=policy_statement_economy

"My economic policies for America are based on four fundamentals:

Repeal the Bush tax cuts, and use those funds to pay for universal health care, homeland security, and investments in job creation that benefit all Americans."

Also Dean follows with:
"Create a fairer and simpler system of taxation"

Please explain this one Howard what is your fairer and simpler system of taxation? How does it effect the Middle Class of America?

Is it anything like this?

"Reclaiming the irresponsible tax breaks for the rich. I propose to recapture the revenue from the irresponsible Bush tax breaks going to the wealthiest families - those making over $200,000 annually."

For the Middle Class of America, we'd like details please...

9. This is satire.
What is so kooky about all this made-up crap is that it follows along the lines of reality.

4. Actually, this part is very true.
A PowerPoint presentation on a disk was found at a bus stop. The disk was placed in the hands of Roll Call which then turned the information over to the DNC. This information has been distributed widely on the Internet.

3. OK..............

Dean talking to voters in Iowa earlier this week - photo by Ryan Witt/ Dean For America.com

Dear ,

George W. Bush talks a lot about "tax cuts," but he doesn't mention how much his fiscal irresponsibility costs. Call it the "Bush Tax" - it's what we are all forced to pay because the president gave away your money in tax breaks mostly for people making over $300,000 per year. The Bush Tax shifts tax costs to states and communities, which then raise your taxes to make up the difference.

The only way to get rid of the Bush Tax is to get rid of George W. Bush - and the first step is for Howard Dean to win the Iowa caucuses 31 days from now. Your contribution today brings us closer to fiscal sanity and real tax fairness. Please contribute now:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/contribute

Because of the Bush Tax, the typical American family will owe $52,000 more on the national debt. Because the President refuses to fund his own education plan, property taxes have skyrocketed more than 27% in Dallas, 25% in Houston and 18% in New York City. Find out how much the Bush Tax is costing you:

http://www.bushtax.com

The Bush Tax is huge - many times greater than most people's so-called tax refunds. George W. Bush did not give you a refund - he spent all the money you sent to Washington, and then took out a loan in your name to cut you a check. You have the power to stop the Bush Tax. Yesterday Governor Dean announced his plan to restore fairness to our economy - read it at:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/newsocialcontract

This week marked the 230th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, when Americans stood up against a government that taxed unfairly and favored the special interests over the people. Now we must stand up again. The fundraising bat is up until midnight Tuesday - step up to the plate and whack the Bush Tax today!

P.S. Forward this message to your friends and family, and let them figure out how much the Bush Tax is costing them.

6. The Bush Tax
Good label from the Dean campaign. And good job pointing out the impact on property taxes.

5. BTW, this is satire.
But often satire doesn't have to twist reality very hard to make itself.

"If everything goes as planned - the American people will have no choice but to vote for President Bush."

Does that mean that Dubya is going to be tho only name on the ballot?

Gee, I heard Saddam got 100% of the vote in the last election in Iraq too! :P

10. LOL - Pretty sad how close satire can come to reality
Things like this almost have to be labeled "Satire" in big letters to not be taken seriously, since the repub party does so many outrageous things in reality. BTW, I did 'get' that it was satire. :-)
