Anybody up for a "The View"/Rosie-debut thread?
I was caught up in the Star-Bahbwah flap and the Meredith-departure and the Rosie-entry deals, while not a frequent viewer before.

My impression in previous years was that Star was emotionally dependent on and adoring of Meredith and that Meredith responded protectively. But in recent months, most times that Star opened her mouth, it seemed that Meredith had a pained, "ewww" look on her face. When Bahbwah took the moderator's chair, I was surprised at how bad she was at running the table. I love Joy and her forthright Democratic partisanship, her openly rooting for GORE and HRCLINTON. Obviously, I detest Elisabeth.

I have been surprised at Meredith. She was considered a "serious" reporter back when she was bumped off of 60 Minutes. I forget what she did in the interim until The View gave her another boost. Then a week or two ago she said that she doesn't watch it, doesn't have time---fine, but she didn't stop there, said that it was sad the show had become a "joke". Actually, I thought she would have been a more serious contender for CBS news reader than Katy COURIC.

Anyway, I'mc checking out the debut. I dislike Rosie, never thought she was that "nice," thought she was deceptive, think she will throw the show off balance, etc., etc.

Well, this is what all those threads on Steve IRWIN's death have driven me to. This gentleman's lamentable death has no political content and no fodder for discussion beyond how lamentable it is.

4. Thanks for posting. I'll go it alone. Ooo, Joy just shot across the bow
Rosie said she had prepared by "taking my medicine." Joy immediately shot: "Wait a minute. You took medicine: Have you told your friend Tom CRUISE??" Bahbwah interrupted to say, "We've got too much to cover today, let's leave Tom CRUISE for tomorrow.

5. Rosie kissing Elisabeth's ass, "You look adorable."
Rosie is cracking all the jokes. Joy is looking frozen. They're catching up on what they all did over the hiatus. Joy's "big news" is that her daughter is engaged. Rosie keeps running over everybody's lines, interrogating style.

Rosie: Any chance it will be a DOUBLE wedding, you and Steve?

Joy: Oh, why are you even GOING there with me?

6. My opinions
(1) Don't like the new set. Looks like something out of a nightclub.
(2) I like Rosie. But it's clear she's probably going to dominate things a bit. Or at least she is right now. Barbara and Joy sat in almost silence for the first couple of minutes.
(3) While she looks like she has lost some weight, Rosie looks like a giant compared to the others. Not necessarily in size, but in height. It looks like she's sitting in a high chair or something. Barbara is on eye level with Rosie's chin. They should do the seating better so they at least all appear to be on the same level.

9. Rosie can be a good "host" type
But I think she would be better to take Star's position, instead of Meredith. Meredith was great at directing the discussion and moving things along, without completely dominating the discussion. Rosie seems like she is trying to play both roles right now (moderator Meredith + outspoken Star), and it seems a little awkward. It's obvious she is more naturally outspoken, and that's probably not the best person to have as the "moderator" of the show. I think she'll be good regardless, but I would prefer to see a more soft-spoken type take over for Meredith, and just let Rosie take over Star's position.

Now talking about AGASSI. Why? Rosie can barely let anybody else talk.

KING tennis court. "Billy Jean KING!!!1 I----LOVE------Billie Jean KING!!!1"

Next topic: The Crocodile Hunter. Rosie: "MY kids idolized him." It's going to be all about her all the time.

Btw, I foolishly thought I was GETTING AWAY from Steve-threads.

15. I'm waiting for that, too. I'm unfortunately old enough to have seen
the early years. A couple of years ago somebody here said SNL was SO passe, that Mad TV was just so much better. I checked out Mad a few times, and at the same time re-runs of the Carol BURNETT show were running, and Mad is just sketch comedy and BURNETT'w were better.

17. Yes, I'm familiar with the "good" days of SNL too.
But Horatio pretty much nails the Rosie role.

23. Now a self-interview of Rosie with Rosie
The "questions" are placarded, like in silent movies. "The law suit. The lesbian haircut didn't help. The haircut. I can tell you this, I'll never do it again. This girl has long, luxurious hair forever."

Back at the table. Jessica comebs back onstage with a cake with Rosie's face on it. Another Rosie hug for Jessica. It's over. Whew. That was exhausting.
