What is it with PBS and all these ''60s Pop' shows?
And why do the audiences consist almost entirely of Really White People who clap on every fucking beat as if it were a march or something? :wtf:

1. Huh? The 60's pop shows are for old f**ks like me
who donate a freaking lot of money to see the Manhattans sing Kiss and Say Goodbye. Us Really White People sometimes clap on the down beat too.

6. Right. They figure old farts like us
are the only ones who have money to donate to PBS. And us old white folks mean to clap on the right beat, but we're old so we're a little slow-moving.

7. We're just not used to clapping to a beat.
Who the hell clapped to Ten Years After or The Who? No One clapped to Up on the Roof. Too busy dancing, laughing and planning the next spray paint assault on water towers, bridges, and streets. I remember painting a red STOP in the middle of a street that went from nowhere to nowhere. It was used by a lot of Seniors that wanted to get laid. Being well brought up assholes they turned around and left usually.

2. Little Richard used to say it was great when white kids starting...
coming to his concerts cause they'd be clapping on the 1 & 3 beats, and the black kids would syncopate clapping on the 3 & 4...made the whole place rocking  i think it was Richard mentioned that i should say

4. My brain has a real aversion to that
I seriously can't listen to people clap on the 1/3 unless it's Tex-Mex or something. I have to turn down the sound or get away, yelling, "WHITE PEOPLE!!!"

12. hmmmmmmmm
I have a couple dozen copies of that piece of sheet music. I'd scan the cover if I knew where to find them in the basement.

22. The best part is the piccolo solo near the end...
We saw a U.S. Marine band perform it, and the piccolo player stood up and marched like a 1-man army to the front of the stage, and methodically, precisely shifted his piccolo into position like it was a rifle - and the rest of his body, face and eyes were perfectly motionless, got the piccolo into position with extreme precision, played the solo including the extended trill ending with the high note, then precisely flipped the piccolo back down to a resting position, lowered his arm like an audio-animatronic robot, then marched back to his seat and sat down - and got a standing ovation. It was pretty amazing, no matter what your opinion is of the song or the Marines.

9. I prefer to clap just on 3 every time.
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 01:09 AM by elperromagico
Makes it seem like the song is running at half-tempo. Try it for yourself. ;)

Either that or I clap on the "and" of every beat 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. Makes the song sound twice as fast. ;)

8. The PBS audience must be trending younger.
Otherwise, they'd still be doing 30s Pop shows.
