"A Winged Migration"...Just saw it...Go See It!
A fantastic look at the birds of the world as they migrate.

The cinematography and camera work was PHENOMINAL!...the used ultralites to fly with the birds. You can see the wind ripple through their feathers and hear the "wooosh" of their wings.

The beauty of the birds doing what they do naturally was breaktaking (or maybe I was choking on a chocolate goober).

Interestingly, the only time the birds ran into trouble that wasn't natural was when they flew over the US. Hunters shot them down or they were disoriented and trapped in toxic sludge.

1. I loved it, too!! Saw it twice!!
I turned on all my friends to it. Haven't heard anyone say they didn't love it! I also have the soundtrack, which is fantastic. I can almost see a flock of birds filling up my living room when it's on! There's something so irresistably pure about that film. A really beautiful experience!! Thanks for the post.

2. Many winged migrants fly miles and only...
Weigh ounces and are faced with ever increasing man-made dangers. Less food, introduced diseases (West Nile), less cover, telephone and radio towers (birds fly into them by the 100's at night) and windows. The last one is especially insidious. People want more windows in their houses and they are sure death for millions of birds nation-wide.

3. Saw it last year
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 07:33 PM by Kellanved
My two best friends (Russian twins; 'no' isn't an answer when they're concerned ;-) ) forced me to see it. Not that I had put up much resistance.
I liked it (it was named "Nomaden der Lüfte"," Nomads of the sky" here), but I can't remember many details.

On Edit: considering the US part; that's sort of strange. Whole swarms (millions) of birds are caught in southern europe (France and Italy) with nets every year.

4. Actually,
I think the toxic oily sludge scene was in Eastern Europe, right?

And, yes, an amazing movie.

5. Yes, it was breathtaking to watch the birds in flight.
Don't forget about the birds who ran into trouble in the rainforest, where they were captured by smugglers. But I was cheering when the hyacinth macaw escaped from the cage and flew off.

6. Is this one of those movies you want to be seat in the front row?
The last bird movie I saw was Birds and it was from the front row. If you recall the opening of that movie, you will understand why I puked all over my date. Of course it could have been the twelve shooters and a bad taco.
