Just to Let You know - my friend who fell off the wagon is doing good.
Stopped drinking this weekend - was doing OK - still had the shakes pretty bad. But he went to work and his car is still there so I don't think he lost his job. (he was holed up for a week and didn't call in to work). That was the big thing. I think the last time this happened they just put him on 90 day probation.
He also found an AA meeting to go to.
So now if he will just go and not get to thinking that he doesn't need it.
And thanks to everybody who responded Saturday - I really needed the encouragement.
If he's already been on probation at work once he may be in for a hard time. I wonder if they have an employee assistance program at his work that could possibly get him into a treatment program, even if it's only an outpatient thing at night. Alot of businesses used to have stuff like that, don't know how it is any more. He's really lucky to have a caring friend like you. If he continues to stumble and it starts to affect you then al-anon might be something you want to consider looking into like people have suggested. It's really good at helping you not drive yourself nuts worrying about people in the throes of an addiction.
I know he was on probation for something or other. And I do think they have some kind of assistance. I think I heard him say that another employee he worked with went to something or other for help.
I feel bad for anyone in that position along with their family and friends. It's a disease that doesn't discriminate about what gender, race or social class you belong to.

I know I never really got the big picture until it was someone I knew and someone who a friend. Then they are no longer "just a drunk" but a person with all kinds of really good things about them. And it is an unbelievably awful disease.
:hug: He's still got a long way to go, but I'm glad he took the first step. :D AA will do him a lot of good, and if you can find an AlAnon meeting for yourself, you'll be even better off. :hug: :pals:
