Ballistic Missles are flying through GD Primary
The place is a warzone today. Here is the summary...

Will Pitt's boss was contacted by someone who didn't like him talking about Dean. His boss wants to have a talk with him. That's one post full of angry liberals.

The other is something happened with Dean making a comment that looks inaccurate about his brother.

The place is on fire right now. Wear a protective suit if you are going in.

3. Yeeeeouch!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, I'd hate to say it in here, but I will not support Dean due the the behaviour of Dean supporting posters in the GD forum.

If that is how his supporters act, I want no part of a Dean campaign or presidency.

7. And if I read one more post like this, I will nicely say again
that ALL the candidates have a some supporters that do not do them credit. Unfortunately, they are often the loudest here.

But I sure as hell ain't basing my support or non-support on anonymous voices on the internet.

For every dumb Dean poster, there's a heckuva lot of great ones out there, on the net and in the real world.

17. Awww, don't say that
The Will Pitt thing was ONE PERSON who was way out of line. The vast majority of Dean supporters denounce what that person did.

:(

38. My feelings exactly
I fled here from DG a few weeks ago, incredulous that crazed cannibal/bashers won't understand that their behaviour drives away potential supporters of their candidates. I'll vote for Dean if he's the candidate, holding my nose at the thought of these people's conduct.

4. I've been there a few times...and all I can say is...
When the Democratic nominee is known, we'd better all rally around him (or her).

Because if what I see in the GD 2004 forum is any indication, we'd might as well call off the election right now. We can't have any of that kind of pointless sniping in the general election.

8. What I foresee is the very worst getting banned
because they won't be able to handle their candidate not getting the nomination and they won't be able to put the breaks on their mouths/fingers. I don't see how some of them can be so down right mean and be able to stop suddenly.

11. Sorry, but the crap flying pre-primary, the bashing,
Reminds me of why I used to loath politics in the first place.

It's all just a pissing contest and beauty pageant.

a guy saw my "Dean" button and said "Your candidate is fighting with another candidate."

I was torn between saying "what does it matter? anyone's better than bush" and "dial 1-800-dumbass & get out of my face."

14. That is one forum that does not interest me.
I will never visit the GD Primary board because I don't have a candidate yet, although the top three is Kerry, Clark and Dean (not necessarily in that order). I'm waiting until whomever gets the nomination. I have a lot of patience.

ABB!

27. Well, it's like this:
The new name-calling rule went into effect saturday morning. Now, however, supporters of certain candidates have found a way around it: simply find a printed article online that USES that same nickname, then post it as a quote. It violates the spirtit of the rule, but not the rule itself, apparently, unless the original author is a 'member of DU'.

Too cute by half, IMO, because the result is the same--- the nickname still winds up being used. :eyes:

21. heh
Part of me is still impressed at how some people have gotten so into this campaign. I kinda miss the fighting in the streets during the Johnson-Goldwater campaign, and I see some of that here. It's not really such a bad thing, even if it does go over the top at times. The alternative is apathy, a far worse fate for us all.

Reasoned discourse seems to still elude us at times, and it might actually be a bit boring if we all turned into Vulcans. Quieter, but boring.

I hope the fighting spirit keeps up in the general election, and there isn't some mass defection by the sour grapes crowd.

Most of us here seem to be able to keep things in some kind of perspective, and recognize assholes for what they are. I have some hope for next year.

earlier in the morning.

There was fighting in the streets between the Johnson and Goldwater camps? Why?

36. Different times...
and there were real questons being asked, real issues being raised. Tempers were high over pretty much everything, and there were dead people in the civil rights movement. Viet Nam was a big election issue, and the question was peace or war. (Wow, did we screw that one up!)

No Republicrats running then-- Goldwater and Johnson had two completely different visions of the future of the country, and their partisans took those visions very seriously, even to fistfights in the streets.

Not that many fistfights, admittedly, but people did seem to just plain give a shit more back then.

Not a big fan of fistfights, or even foodfights, but the passion is encouraging. Politics without passion is dangerous for us all.

Let's see how many of the badasses of GD can put all that energy into fighting Shrub next fall.

and he said he would lurk and not post. I'm not one to talk someone into staying on DU since we don't really know each other but I do wish he'd reconsider. Also, he could have told us who the DUer was. The only hint he gave was that she was female.

Anyone know who?

37. *sigh* I'm new here, and I already miss the 'good ol days'
When I first started posting a couple months ago, people were talking about how scary GD was getting. I didn't think it was too bad at that point, but good golly someone injected it with snake venom in the past couple weeks or so!

I hate that every effort of the mods to "restore civility" seems to be failing, and it must frustrate the heck outta them too. I don't blame it on any certain supporters, and I am sure we all take more offense to shots at us or our personal candidate more than at others/s'. But it really does piss me off to see how many people seem to hate ALL Dean supporters. Yes, some of them go over the top, but I have seen the same ferocity from Kerry's and Clark's supporters too.

It's total denial too... someone keeps saying that no Deanies condemned what was done to Will, and that is just FLAT NOT TRUE. But I guess, just like the Repugs do... repeat it enough, and people will buy it....

*sigh*
