1970's Flashback:
Anybody remember an advertising campaign by the whiskey company Canadian Club? They would takes cases of CC and hide them in remote, mysterious and/or dangerous parts of the world, and then offer cash prizes to the people who found them. I remember there would be big, full-color advertising spreads in Life Magazine listing the various hiding spots; Loch Ness, The Great Barrier Reef, I think Port Royal, Jamaica was one, and some others.

Anybody know if any of them were found?

Anybody know why CC discontinued the campaign?

5. Canadian Club...
...hid cases of whiskey in remote places and invited people to search for them? And this happened in the 70's? Gee, now we know where Bush was during his AWOL period.

6. Here are some answers
Ah, I forgot about those. I used to buy Playboy in college just to read those ads! (ahem)

At any rate here's the Straight Dope..

The Hiram Walker people finally tired of the "Hide-A-Case" campaign, and retired it in 1981. In all, 22 cases were hidden during the period 1967-1981; 16 were found in fairly short order and a few others may have drifted in since. Sure, it was all a silly gimmick, but Canadian Club advertising to my mind has never been as memorable since. Bring back the hidden cases.

And they revived it in 2003, kinda.
