I just spent the last two hours driving too fast, on my cell phone.
Does that make me a bad liberal? Does it matter that I did it in a reasonably fuel efficent car, wasn't going faster than the rest of I-80 traffic and that I used my turn signal and such? Just wondering. I know back when gas was up not driving like a grandma meant a person was a freeper for sure, does it still?

1. I would have paid to see someone drive on their cell phone, especially
if they were going fast.

3. I'm an incurable lead-foot on the highway
I've been one since I began driving and I don't see it changing anytime soon. If that makes me a bad Liberal despite everything else I do that's considered indicative of being a "good Liberal" then so be it.

5. Were you towing a boat?
Personally, I think with modern, aerodynamic cars, you get better mileage at speeds above the speed limit. At least, that's what I've decided to believe...

6. Unfortunately, I wasn't.
I completely believe that you get better gas mileage above the speed limit. I have a Saab (currently uninsured, so I don't drive it) and it hit peak mileage at 80mph or so. Swedish car with an engine built in Germany. It makes sense that the car is going to hit optimum above 55mph.

8. I still recommend...
towing a small boat, putting a pit bull in the back, picking up whatever the sole vegan item on the Olive Garden menu is, and talking on your cell phone, while doing 75mph to the local gun shop.

10. No, it makes you a bad driver
Get off the fucking phone when you're driving. If you absolutely have to make a call, find somewhere to stop. For fuck's sake.

12. Thirded.
And the Car Talk experts disagree with the OP about driving at speeds like 80 mph.
