My dog is has distemper
She's dying and its horrible shes in convulsions and I feel like I should finish it for her but I want her to recover with all my heart but I cant stand to see her like this.
Do young dogs recover from this nightmare? Should I just take her to the field and end her suffering? What can I do?
Please let me know what to do.

1. Please, please don't shoot her!
Distemper is a medical condition that needs to assessed by a veterinarian. Please take her to an emergency clinic immediately. Please.

2. Get to a vet!
In many many cases, distemper is treatable.

3. Get thee to the vet.
If your pup needs to be put down the vet can do it humanely.

7. I am so very sorry
Distemper is hard to beat and convulsions are usually a very bad sign for just about any acute illness. You did the right thing to end her suffering.

The little girl dog named "Susie" is the one that we lost today.

We're down to just one now, I hope he'll make it.

11. The puppy video is cute
I'm sorry about the pup Susie getting distemper. Is it common in the Philippines? I understand puppies aren't vaccinated until they are 6 weeks old. What animal was she exposed to that would have had distemper?
In my old neighborhood in the woods a guy from the Humane Society came to try to capture a raccoon which we had observed acting kind of drunk. It did not appear to be wary of us, as they usually are. The raccoon went into a culvert and stayed there, and the Humane Society guy told us to put our pets' outside water bowls indoors, so the disease (which he thought ws likely distemper) wouldn't be spread.

13. I have no idea how the disease was contacted
We keep our dogs in the yard here without much contact with other animals, here where I live dogs are very important for security.
They were only 9 weeks old, the shots are normally given for distemper at 3 months they said.
I'm going to start bringing them regularly to the veterinarian down in town. I met him for the first time this morning.
And that is what he said also, that its spread through the food and water bowls from other animals. So you are certainly right about that.

12. You shouldn't feel like you should apologize for that.
Millions of animals are euthanized in the US every year for lack of homes. The only way to reduce that number is not to breed more animals when we have no homes to offer them. Spaying and neutering is lifesaving, and the single largest responsibility we have to our companions.

15. Phrogman, sorry for the loss of your pup, please spay your dog.
So so many unwanted dogs already in the world.
I am sure in the Philippines, there are many abandoned dogs that would love to have a nice home like yours. I saw your youtube video, and it looks like a nice home and family.
Please do the right thing about propagating more animals.

I grew up in Brazil, and probably like the Philippines, there are many abandoned dogs in the street and few concerned organizations.

I know you need your pooch for security, but it looks like the dogs are part of your family as well. I can tell you felt the loss of your pup very deeply, and this tells me you are concerned about doing the right thing.

Best wishes for your decisions.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years.

He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble.
At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like Mother of Pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there". The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump." They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates?
Nope. That's Hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who'll leave their best friends behind."

17. Wonderful
The first time I heard someone say that pets couldn't get into heaven I remember thinking that it didn't sound much like paradise to me.

Thanks.
