the wedding has been postponed.

Sorry.

It was supposed to be in November, now it's in March, supposedly. My sister went to a shrink and the shrink told her to postpone it. I don't know what is going on. Apparently she's not sure she wants to get married. All that insanity these last two months for nothing. It kind of isn't surprising because she and the man were just gonna live together until they told my parents, who went completely fundie outer limits on them...then the next day they announced they were engaged. I think they are still engaged but apparently the wedding has been moved back. This is so damn weird. Is this common? I mean just the drama and consternation surrounding getting the stupid invitations assembled and the envelopes hand-lettered beat all the cumulative drama I've had in my life so far, and I'm 38 years old. And now it's temporarily 'suspended'. I have a bad feeling about it. She already moved in with the guy, too.

wow.

2. she hasn't officially told me.
So I don't officially know. I'm just glad, even though it's a mess (so much money has gone into this already it's crazy) that she's back to her original plan, at least temporarily. I was pretty upset when I found out how my parents reacted to her announcement...I voiced my opinion like a grown-up (yay me), regressing back into fundie-speak to tell my mom that the bible teaches pre-marital sex is wrong, and my sister is far from a virgin, but that it really doesn't say much about 'living' together, as far as I know, so her concerns about them 'living' together were stupid. The whole thing is stupid and exhausting. If I ever do the goverment-recognized paper seal type marriage deal it'll be at a courthouse and no one will know til it's over with.

3. I'm having a major flashback...
...I tried to convince my older sister to wait. But, nooooooo...she had to get married right out of college (the week she graduated). It took 20 years of abuse, but she finally divorced the loser. You know the expression, you can lead a horse to water...

Good luck! I certainly hope things work out well for your sister!

4. thanks
this guy actually seems really sane.

the details at this point are sketchy. It has to do with her just having had this surgery to repair a shattered disc in her neck, and then she went off the hydrocodone cold turkey and had a major withdrawal episode which she wasn't expecting. I don't know what to think about it. I hope she isn't having some kind of breakdown, but it must have been major for her to postpone the wedding.

6. strange, isn't it.
this is not the way I operate. Had I gone to all this trouble, someone by God would be getting married on the date planned, even if I had to advertise for a couple. I think she is going to lose her deposit.

I am not laughing at her, btw, it's just, at this point, one of those 'better to laugh than to cry' scenarios.
