Teen Imitates "Jackass" Stunt - In Hospital In Critical Condition
<snip>

There is new information Tuesday in the case of a teenager who was seriously hurt after imitating something he saw in a movie.

18 year old Joe White's stepmother says he's in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital after jumping from a moving car. Shawnee County Sheriff Dick Barta says a passenger in the car told deputies White was trying to recreate a scene from the newly released "Jackass" sequel.

His stepmother said he had just watched the movie the night before.

"He decided he was going to jump out of the car, and my thought is that he maybe thought they were closer to the curb and that he would land in the grass," said Kristen White, Joe White's stepmother. She said her stepson, Joe, leapt from a car going between 30 and 35 miles per hour. He was apparently trying to recreate a stunt from the movie "Jackass Number Two."

Sheriff Dick Barta says it was no accident. "This was an intentional, voluntary act," said Sheriff Barta.

Joe underwent brain surgery to remove a blood clot, which may leave him paralyzed.

"It's just real scary, because you don't want your child to have any permanent neurological deficit. You want him to fully recover to the way he functioned prior to the accident," said Joe's stepmother. White says it could take months or even years for her stepson to recover from his injuries.

She added, "It's a day by day situation, and they just can't predict anything at this point."

3. Five bucks say that in the next four posts...
One person will say the 'Jackass should be removed forever from the movie theaters!' and then the whole argument shall begin.

 Haven't brought this guy out lately.

4. I'm not quite sure that I'd "want him to fully recover to the way he
functioned prior to the accident" -- it would appear that there was some measure of 'neurological deficit' even then.

13. I don't think that would help, sadly.

The guy I went to HS with, who did shit like this actually never got hurt. However, this past New Year's we lost him in Montreal. Yup, he was almost donated to Canada, because we were going to abandon him as part of the Pirate's Code.

That's sort of a form of culling the herd, although he is actually a Democrat, so it's probably overall for the best that we didn't donate him to Canada.

10. oh they did it back when too...
my neighbor related to me how he and his friends would swim in the Monagahela River here in Pittsburgh...and to "test themselves"...they would swim under the coal barges...as they passed down the river...

Now the Mon is not a very clear river...and coal barges are wide...

One of his friends drowned doing this....and this was back in the 1940's

12. Someone in the office
from Pittsburgh said he used to do the same thing when he was younger. Times change but the judgment of todays kids seem to be lacking even greater than 20 or 30 years ago.
