anyone here have any experience with Aflac insurance??
the Aflac salesman just left our office, and to be honest the coverage sounds to good to be true, and as my dad told me............. Just wondering if I could get some feedback on them.

1. They tried to set up an Aflac account at my husband's place of
employment. It ended up falling through due to small print stuff. i.e. some of it was how you got your injury that caused the short/long term disability, waiting periods for coverage to commence, red tape and the like. They all ended up opting out right after they were all gungho to sign up. I'll ask him exactly what happened and PM you with it. :hi:

2. My husband had them..when he slipped and injured his knee, they were great

His injury began the ball rolling for cartiledge/bone grafts. After his surgery, he received benefits for about 2 1/2 months. We were pleasantly surprised. In fact, he had a couple of policies with them and AFLAC sent him a notice to re-send his information to the other policy divisions to see if he was entitled to other money from them. Now that I think about it, I don't think he ever re-sent the information.

edited to add: DH just reminded me that this happened in 2000..so things may have changed since then.

3. Place I worked at
had it.Out of ten or so people who tried to collect on it,Only one person was able to actually get any money out of them. And he had an injury that only kept himm out of work for a few weeks. The ones with longer term disability were screwed out of any benifits due to fine print in the policy.

4. I had AFLAC supplemental life insurance through the school
where I worked before my current job. I got it for myself and my husband. To be honest, we never had to make a claim (thankfully), but the folks that I dealt with at the human resources fairs and on the phone were very nice and helpful. I don't know anything more about how they handle claims or anything like that, but in my limited dealings with them, I had good experiences. :)

6. A friend of mine had it
and then got in a plane crash but was unable to collect even though the policy states that you are covered in plane crashes. Their excuse was that it only covers "scheduled flights", whatever those are. The plane he was on was a chartered flight, therefore no "schedule". Fortunately his injuries were minor.

7. Don't do it--
it IS too good to be true. We have truly lousy insurance at my job, and I thought this would be a good way to have some additional coverage. I was told all kinds of stuff about how every time I went to the doctor I could file a claim and get, say. $50, "just for going to the doctor." I had two eye doctor appointments in the last couple of months, and I remembered the other day that I had this coverage. First I couldn't find any kind of claim form anywhere, either on my company's website or on AFLAC's. So today I just happened to remember to ask one of our benefit coordinators about it, and the reply was that "you have to wait a year before you can receive benefits."

I sat with the rep for over an hour going over their offerings, and never once did he ever tell me that there was a waiting period for ANY of their coverage. Obviously I'm an idiot for trusting an insurance salesman, but there you are.

I'll be cancelling my coverage once open enrollment starts shortly. If I'm going to have lousy insurance, at least I won't be paying out the nose for it.
