12. Since sushi is just the rice, it doesn't matter about fish. Sushi is sushi
And sushi can indeed be paired with cooked fish - unagi (eel) is almost always cooked before being added to sushi.

I have a vague memory of something else I've had that has always, or almost always, been cooked, but I could be mistaken; and I certainly can't remember right now what it was.

Most times, though, toppings for sushi - when they are fish - are raw.

15. It certainly can.
"Sushi" is a class of appetizer and can be anything, including my favorite sushi, inarizushi (sushi rice stuffed in a salty-sweet brown pocket made from fried tofu).

By the way, I generally hate seafood, but I like sushi, even the sashimi (raw fish on a wad of rice). Why? Because sushi is Japan's proof to the world that a good enough cook working with fresh enough ingredients can make anything taste good!

2. Spicy Tuna handroll
Unagi (broiled eel)

If all else fails get Sake Sushi (raw salmon)

But if you like spicy stuff, go with the Spicy Tuna

5. Do you want just sushi, or are you thinking of sushi with toppings?
let me suggest Toro, Unagi, and horse. I also love urchin guts, salmon, and squid. Tako is good, but I'm not into eating much of it. Whale - wonderful! And even the standard california roll with avocado and fake crab, cucumber, and whatever else they want is also always good stuff. Oh, mackeral is good, and so is flounder.

If you can get grilled urchin, even better! Yum!

10. Get a 2 piece sushi of each of the following:
Yellowtail (hamachi)
Tuna
Salmon
Eel (unagi)
Tako (octopus)--do this one as sashimi

(I scoped out the menu you linked).

Make sure you get soy sauce and wasabi. Make a paste out of a little wasabi and some soy sauce, and dip the end of your sushi into it, and enjoy.

The sampling listed is fairly accessible, I think, to someone newer to sushi.

Enjoy! I didn't know squat about sushi and my wife taught me everything. We have it all the time now.

13. I ordered that except for the unagi, because I won't eat that much.
I'm not a sushi newbie. Just really indecisive tonight. The octopus is new for me though.

Other forms of soy are fine. Not natto.

29. Natto is truly one of the most digusting things ever made for food.
:puke:

My partner loves it - I can barely tolerate the smell.

21. Did you try the wasabi?
That stuff is great, but use with caution - get too much in your mouth, and steam will come out of your ears.

23. I know what you mean...
I have to torture myself with an overdose of wasabi once in a while. Clears the sinuses up.

24. Well my sinuses are fucked, so spicy food actually lets me breathe
normal. Actually, one of my cats has a chronic untreatable sinus thing. She'll lick a tiny bit of wasabi off my finger when I get sushi. Then, she always shakes her head, sneezes and walks away like nothing happened. I think she knows that it helps her sinuses.

27. Try Tobiko or Uni, with quail egg if you're really brave.
or see if they'll make a salmon skin hand roll; yummy. Skip the octopus though because that's just squeaky.

This thread was more of a "I'm being an indecisive about dinner" thread than a "Ahh, I don't understand sushi thread."
