How many poisonous snakes would you kiss to set a world record?
Okay, this sets off my ick detector:

OREGON -- We've all heard the old song that says a kiss is just a kiss. But suppose you kiss a venomous king cobra. That's more than "just a kiss" -- it's a smooch that could kill you.

Even so, that didn't stop a Thai snake charmer from kissing 19 highly poisonous snakes Saturday. That's how much he wanted to set a new world record.

A statement from Thailand's Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum says security was tight during the snake-kissing event, with four additional snake charmers flanking the stage and a medical team ready with serum.

(snip)

Sweet Feed employee Robert Ries bravely held a somewhat less friendly green tree python so our photographer could snap a picture, and another employee -- Dawn Szekely -- smiled the whole time a large reticulated python coiled around her fearless body.

More here, including photos:

Nothing really to fear there. If she had a large reticulated python coiled around her body, I'd call her fearless.

And in the third photo, that's a ball python, not a corn snake.

Crappy journalism at it's finest.

2. I'll send a correction and see if it sticks.
So that's a *baby* r. python? I wouldn't want to be around when it grows up.

Sounds like you're a snake fan. Do you have any?

They spook me worse than just about anything. I heard a cop on the scanner refuse a call once when he was dispatched to a field where a large snake was loose. He radioed back, "I don't do snakes." Then there was a flurry of other officers radioing in snarky remarks to the first cop.

Yeah, that's a baby ret. Adults are 25' and weigh a couple hundred pounds. It pisses me off that reticulated and Burmese pythons are sold in petshops to any idiot off the street. Most people are fit to properly care for them and so they're let loose, killed, etc when they get too "difficult."

Snakes aren't something to fear. They're an important part of the ecosystem and generally have no desire to bother humans.

6. In the wild, anything it wants almost.
A loose Burmese python in FL died after it tried to eat an Alligator. In captivity, generally rabbits & chickens.

3. Zero.
Why should I subject innocent creatures to such an indignity?
