Toyota Avalon versus Toyota Highlander
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 04:52 PM by cat_girl25
I am thinking of purchaing either one. I am leaning toward the Avalon because I said I would never purchase a SUV but this is a mini-SUV so I don't think it counts. I have been researching and they both seem like great cars. The only difference may be if you want to sit high up. I don't know. Any thoughts or advice? Much appreciated.

2. The Highlander isn't a mini-SUV, but it is available in hybrid.
If you can afford it, I'd go with the Highlander hybrid, otherwise the Avalon.

4. We have a hybrid Highlander and we like it very much.
No problems in over a year. It gets a little over 20 miles a gallon.

15. I was looking at the hybrids also.
But I don't think I can afford the price.

5. Highlander comes in a Hybrid model
Still only gets 28 mpg, but that's not bad for a mid sized SUV, and its clean clean clean

18. No camping but I do haul objects sometimes.
I'm a single person and really don't need an SUV but I'm tall and would like the step up in a car instead of stepping down. But I could go either way, it's not that important to me.

7. You need to figure out what kind of body style meets your needs before
you even think about narrowing it down to a model.

It's a cushier version of the Camry.

23. If it is like the 2006, generally, it should be very nice.
A family member has one, along with a beloved c1997 Avalon, and recommends it highly.

25. Well... I guess you're entitled to your opinion.
I bought a very reasonable SUV (A Kia Sportage with a 4-cylinder)

It gets 25 mpg, and has some storage room. I bought it because some of the places we camp can't be accessed without a 4wd.

9. I hope this doesn't offend you...but, since you asked, I think
the Toyota Avalon is ugly. I would never own an ugly car. Again, I apologize if I offended anybody.

21. You didn't offend me.
I was looking at the Avalon's because it's the next step up from the Camry's. The camry I have now is 15 years old and was a great car. I really don't see the Avalon's that often. I saw one the other day and it looked okay to me (I thought the Camry's looked better). Maybe they will grow on me, I don't know. We shall see.

14. IWe just got a 2006 Highlander Hybrid
It gets 34 mpg in the city. Not the best but, very good for the amount of room it gives us. The other features that we liked were: 3rd seat, 7 passenger (our two corgis!!) and, the 100,000mi/ 6yr warrenty. Can't beat it.

Let us know what you end up getting!

17. I dunno, but
if you lease it and you live in Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Idaho, or Florida, and you get a letter about your insurance, be nice to the guy on the other end of the phone. It'll probably be me. :D

You could fit a Yaris in the cabin.
