Well our old kitty Tumona died today...
She was such a tough old bird. She was at least 15, maybe 17, maybe 20, no way to know. Drama queen to the end. When our last cat Nola ,17, was dying, she went into the woods and died a private death, never to be seen again. Another cat, Winky, 19, crawled into a box and died there.

Funny, she was running around on the deck this weekend and had her morning dish of milk just yesterday and was fine..

Of course I am sad, but boy did she have a good life with us as a stray. She was allergic to cat hair and the vet said there wasn't much we could do about that. She ruined an expensive lap top computer with her sneezy snot, frying out the mother board. Her snot covered our wood stove and windows and anything of value. She was incredibly clingy, which I guess is why she chose to die in the kitchen today. I sat with her at the end and covered her with a towel because I was afraid she was cold and that is when she let out her last breath.

RIP Tumona

7. for tumona
Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

8. My condolences
I have pets with strong but weird personalities/ quirks make the greatest impressions on me. I pictured her sneezing on your laptop. Yes, it was gross but at the same time, it was uniquely her. She was herself to the end.
She was lucky to have found you.

26. I'm sorry for the loss of your furbaby
My little kitty is 15 years old, starting to show the signs of aging, but is still very affectionate and has her playful moments. But I know I probably have less than five years left with her.

28. My old kitty Ilsa died yesterday morning.
She was 16 or so (she was a stray, too). She did on a rug in the bathroom just after I left for work. I pet her and turned out the bathroom light and said "Goodbye, Ilsa," hoping she would still be alive when I got home about 5 hours later, but it clear that she died right after I left.

32. I'm so sorry
The hard part of having pets is that we usually outlive them.

My cat, Buddy passed on about four months ago at 16, so I can sympathize.

Keep Tumona's memory alive, treasure the time you had with her, and she will always be with you.

37. You guys are all just too sweet!
Thanks for all of the kind words. They meant the world to me!
I hope I didn't sound too callous in the loss of my cat and consequently I thought I should give all of you wonderful people some history about "my cat situation".

We live on a dead end road in central Maine, almost directly across from the region's cat shelter. If you no longer want a cat, you just drive up to the shelter, give them $5 and they take in the cat promising to find it a good home.

Only a lot of people don't want to pay the 5 bucks and just let the cat out of the car at the foot of the driveway. And this cat shelter, which is well within state laws, is the last place these cats want to go to. So....they come to our house!

We take in what we can, and find homes for the ones we can't. The cat shelter is just that and it is the last place I would go if I wanted a cat. So the cats we get here which we can't keep, I drive to the Bangor Humane Society which has a nice pet store facility and markets the cats on the web.

I don't mean to complain, but my kids snuck in a cat which bit my son and $600 later we found out the cat wasn't rabid and he just had a nasty cut on his hand. Last summer we had a mother cat with four kittens, which I had to care for until the babies were weened and then truck the whole lot an hours drive to the Bangor shelter.

We are now down to two cats, (both strays) from a high of several dozen which we have fed, inoculated and fixed.

I don't want any of you to think that I am a saint, I was just doing what needed to be done. I have one cat now that the vet isn't sure is really a cat, but maybe some hybrid lynx.

Just spread the word...please fix your cats...
