One Night with the King - postcards and stupid christians...
Okay....I got this postcard while I was out of town for this movie called..."One Night with the King"...

A movie about the Book of Esther....from the OLD TESTAMENT.

First time ever that I have gotten a postcard about seeing a movie...don't know why...but I go to find out more.

I see the trailer...I read one objective review and then....I read the user comments on IMDB.

There are really some big freaking idiots in this world...and a lot of them profess to know the bible. Well...the Book of Esther is about a JEWISH Girl, her faith, and her decision to risk her own life to save her people. It predates Christ...It is in the Old Testament. It is a good story, but you can tell from the reviews on IMDB that people were encouraged to write positive reviews for this movie and they basically gave it any spin they wanted...even making it a story about living through Christ...okey dokey...I guess the sky is clearly a different color in their world...

"The best Christian film since The 10 Commandments, 15 October 2006

Author: DrewThrasher from United States

without a doubt this will be a movie that will be remembered, i believe that it is the best Christian epic film since the 10 commandments and that is saying something, i honestly wished they made the movie a bit longer though, i was so much drawn into it when it began, all of the actors met my expectations and then some, when i first heard this movie was coming out i wasn't expecting much, to my surprise i saw a work of art here, it is of my opion that it is even better than The Passion of The Christ and i mean that, i love the Passion but there's something about this film that just i dunno how to put it, its just so much more Grander is the word i am looking for, but yes i do believe that this is one that will be remembered for a long time to come.
"

A Christian Epic...hmmmm......the reviews alone make me not want to waste my money and encourage such nonsense...

1. Sounds like a visit to IMDB is in order.

Time for a little smackdown on the discussion boards.

Added on edit:

On the other hand, I just skimmed one of the threads over there and the Xtians and the Lubavitchers are doing a fine job of tearing into each other like rabid wolverines. It's almost too fun.

6. I cannot remember what they call this
but it is like foreshadowing. The Passover story somewhat parallels the Christ story. In fact, the Last Supper was a Passover feast. The parallels are that the Passover was (supposedly) when the first born sons of the Egyptians were killed - thus paralleling when the first born son of God was killed. Jewish households were passed over because they were marked with the blood of a lamb. Christians call Jesus, the Lamb of God, and say they are saved by His blood.

Also, since the Christian Bible includes the Old Testament, including the stories of Moses and Esther, these are read and taught in Christian churches. Christianity, is generally seen by Christians as an extension of Judaism, which predicted a messiah, which came in the person of Jesus the Christ. Except that many current and future Jews rejected Jesus as messiah.

Archetype, that is the word. It was lost long ago, but it's all coming back to me now.

3. Oh. I thought it was a movie about a fling with Elvis.
That would have been more interesting.

5. Well, yeah...

:D

Reminds me of a time when, while working in the tropics, those of us present celebrated an accomplishment by going out to dinner at a local restaurant (this was rather a rustic and untouristed island...the 'restaurant' was, literally, the front room of a lady's house) and one of our number said "look, there's the King" -- I (naturally) and my prime dive buddy (slightly less naturally, given that he was conventionally religious) looked around for evidence of Elvis memorabilia and were a tad nonplussed when the one who started it all pointed to a bust of Jesus. The weird thing is that the dude wasn't even religious, as far as we knew. Elvis didn't like being called 'King,' but if the Beatles were bigger than Jesus then...well... :-)
