11. Can you call someone at the board of ed there?
Might be easier to get info out of a live human being, or whatever reasonable facsimile thereof exists in Utah. ;-)

16. Find a firm and look up a person who would know that info. and ask.
Tell them your background and interest and ask what the path to getting a job would be.

You might knock out two birds with that stone. You can find the right credentials and perhaps met an ally in the field.

5. First off...
DO NOT GO TO UTAH!!!! I was trapped in Mormon hell for 9 years and could not wait to move back to Mass! Finally got out, and our old neighbors moved out there after we told them not to. Now they want to come back but can't afford to. You will not get paid what you would here, and you will be ridiculed for not being of "the faith". Why doesn't your boyfriend want to stay here?? I read your blog about subservient women...that is all there are in Utah!! The mormon men treat their women just like what you were talking about. If you MUST go, at least try to get a teaching job in Park City, the sin city of Utah...at least there you can save your sanity, but probably won't be able to afford to live there. I lived in PC for 8 years, until rent prices blew me out of town. Good luck to you, but seriously reconsider the move!

6. We're staying in SLC in a cool area
Trust me, I'm EXTREMELY nervous about moving, but I figure I CAN make a difference there for the few years we stay there. But I appreciate your concern-- it sounds scary, but I know I can do it!

9. Where will you be?
Down town? oh, there are, for some reason, a lot of homeless people in SLC. Don't know why since it gets freaking cold there in the winter. But I sincerely wish you the best of luck and if it is only for a few years, why not experience some place different???

15. The message here is that life is WAY too short to take a detour
through Utah as a place to live. Place and friends, and in today's world, liberal, aware, informed neighbors is critical to having some peace at the center of your life. I grew up with a Mormon neighbor girl (in Calif) who was proselytizing at age 8. They are programmed. I told myself I'd never get near Utah no matter who, what or how lucrative the job.
