13. Defending Godfather 3
While it's not up to the level of the first two, folks dismiss the third, and usually base it on Sofia Coppola's performance... to my mind, she's perfectly cast as "the boss's daughter" -- partly because that's who she was. But the Valley Girl speak, and her uh, exotic, looks just made it that much more convincing that Andy Garcia's character was pursuing her because she was the boss's daughter, not because she was any great trophy in herself. I think Winona Ryder dropped out of that part, which is probably for the best. ANYBODY would fall for Winona, no matter who her daddy is.

Sofia's proven she has some real filmmaking chops with "Lost in Translation" and "The Virgin Suicides" -- so I gotta believe she and Francis knew what they were doing with her portrayal of Mary Corleone.

That aside, yes, G3 is kinda convoluted, but they had to raise the stakes on "the caper" and achieve some closure, and make sure to trot out every surviving character from I & II.

"All we are saying, is give 3 a chance..."

10. Go trade them in on Holes, or Amelie, or something cheerful
It's Christmas!! Godfather? All Quiet on the Western Front? Watch those some other time, like during the State of the Union Speech. They seem appropriate, then.

20. Yours are good, just rather down for Christmas
Have you seen the movie Holes? The author wrote the screenplay. Very good.

Godfather must be a Yankee thing. They're good, but so damned overrated.

And on books being better than movies, you have to read All Quiet on the Western Front. Great movie, better book.

22. Yankee is anybody north of Baton Rouge!
I remember this five years I lived in the North. Dallas. Man, that was rough.

Okay, so maybe the Godfather thing is just me. Good films, but I feel like I do when I watch Neil Simon-- like I'm on the outside of a bunch of inside jokes. Then again, my life often feels like that...

19. "Leave the gun. Take the canoli"
If you've not seen 'The Godfather' before, do so. Now! Before you do anything else in your life!

In fact, even if you have seen it before, watch it again. It's a classic for a reason....

I, for one, have no idea what other ones you got besides those listed. On the other hand, I am going to vote for Other, meaning "Watch them all!" Merry Christmas. :)
