Those Chevy "This is our country" commercials bug the hell out of me
Maybe it's because they use that picture of Rosa Parks to shill for their trucks, I don't know, but whatever it is, they irk me on a deep visceral level

1. When you have to appeal to patriotism to sell a product
You're either too cheap to hire a decent ad agency or you haven't got much of a product to sell.

2. Chevy has been playing the patriotism card for years
Personally those ads do the opposite of what they are supposed to on me...they actually make me want to buy a Chevy even less!

5. They've been playing them constantly during the playoffs
which could also add to my dislike for them because I've seen that commercial elevendy billion times (that's right elevendy billion...it's a big number :P). I think it's just using Rosa Park's picture to sell pick-up trucks bugs me. I mean using The Beatles Revolution to sell Nike shoes sucked too, I think I have a problem with advertising in general.

13. Yeah, I understand that
I guess I just see it differently. The pictures are all stuff that's good about America, and Rosa Parks is certainly part of that.

'Course, looking at it another way, she was about something that was (and is) very, very bad about America.

But anyway, yeah — even good commercials, you see 'em elevendy* billion times, they get on your nerves.

*You didn't hafta explain that. :D

8. I'm with you, plus I think they have an overall liberal slant.
It's our country and the images are of our country. It's definitely wayyy less annoying than many car commercials.

6. I don't mind them
I actually think it's a pretty subliminal liberal message - John Mellencamp is a well known liberal and the ad includes images of Rosa Parks, MLK, Vietnam protestors, and regular people. In other words, it's our country; we the PEOPLE. I actually think they're well done, and not fakey patriotic/jingoistic at all.

Of course you have a point about all of the above people/images/concepts being used to sell cars, but... since advertising is a part of our world, at least it's an ad whose message I like.

7. It's because this stuff has other different deeper meanings for us
When they tie Beatles songs or the flag into whatever it is they're trying to move I get totally turned off. Cadillac is using Led Z to sell their Darth Vadarish cars and I think it sucks. What they are doing is selling by association. This is one of the oldest tricks going, but they should at least have the creativity to be less obvious about it.

VW is using music by current groups, BadMasterCylinder is one, and that's okay because this music was either written for the commercial or it helps to promote a band and is used with permission.

10. Yeah that's a nice one isn't it?
I have a Chase card. They're telling me that all I need is love so I guess that's all I need to send them when the next statement comes in.

12. They use GM. GM offshores. Chevy probably does on its own too.
If it's not made in America, then how is it American? It's actually sold in America and the execs are American (in theory) but made in some other country and cheaply too because I don't hear too many good things about the quality of parts and things made in those other countries.

14. We have a Subaru and a BMW and the quality is just fine so far
I don't know where the parts were made but I don't think it was here, although the BMW was assembled here. Haven't had these vehicles long enough to really say how they hold up (2005 and 2006 respectively) But the '98 Honda Acord we bought used at 60k miles went for another 70k with only normal servicing and there was nothing wrong with it when we traded it in. I guess my question is what are you trying to tell us?
