Who here has heard of deep fried dill pickles?
It must be something southern. They deep fry everything down there.

1. One of the few deep-fried things that sounds appetizing to me.
Of course, I'll eat dill pickle anything.

2. or at state fairs
They deep fry and put just about anything on a stick. I think if they could deep fry a tire and put it on a stick, they would. I just read about some other deep fried abomination the other day, and I can't remember what it is. I'd try a deep fried Oreo but not a pickle

11. Was it deep fried coke?
Apparantly, they take coke syrup, gummy it up somehow, wrap it in dough, and deep fry the bastard. A little powdered sugar on top, and it's ready for regurgitation.

Deep fried twinkies are another popular delicacy (as far as deep fried and delicacy can go together in the same sentence) at fairs.

4. That sounds pretty good, actually
Sort of in the same artery clogging family as deep-fried zucchini or okra. Before you go giving credit to the South, however, you might want to check with the Scots - they're fairly cutting edge in terms of fry-cookery as well...

6. OMG, there's a deli not far from my house that has the slogan "Home of the
Fried Pickle". :yoiks: Haven't tried one, but it sounds very artery-clogging...

8. It sounds like one of the few artery clogging foods I'd like.
At least, unlike most of the deep-fried foods that shouldn't be deep-fried, pickles have almost no calories.

10. Maybe so.... but
I have this theory that some people will fry anything. Especially the people that run that particular deli. :yoiks: I'll bet they tried frying a roast beef sandwich and it didn't really turn out too well, then they tried frying a pickle to see what would happen. Their menu even has a waving pickle on it, and the caption is "Home of the Fried Pickle".

13. Now the waving pickle is too much.
There's a town about 15 minutes west of me called Succasunna. A few years ago they had a carnival called "Suck a Sunny Day." They had a HUGE banner up along the highway. I damn near ran off the road when I read it.

 I'll bet you did.... I'd have been laughing so hard I'd probably have passed out...

Yeah, the waving pickle is kinda phallic. I'll have to scan the menu and post the logo...

...they're a staple appetizer in most seafood restaurants in Louisiana...now we've got sweet potato french fries..and one brand of sweet potato chips which are MUCH better than the pickles which I've never cared for as they're too salty..I prefer the sweet potatos by far. :9

I don't know if it is a Southern thing or not, but I do know that you can find them very readily down here.

They are the best served w/ Ranch dressing. Yum! :9

edit: Also have fried twinkies and fried candy bars (the best :9)

30. There used to be a restaurant in Grand Rapids that had pickle chips
It was in the Amway (gag) Grand Plaza and was called Tootsie Von Kelly's. I don't think it's there anymore, but it was the bar/burger joint in the hotel, where most of the other restaurants were pretty fancy.
