What's your current theme song?
Mine is "Why Can't I Be You?" by The Cure. Hubby and I ate lunch at a Mexican restaurant today, and I had to walk through the bar area to get to the bathroom. There was a group of thirty-something guys at a table, and as I walked by, one of them yelled, "Oh, honey, why can't I be you??" I just laughed and said, "You've been listening to The Cure too much!" and went about my business. The guys with him laughed their asses off. :P As I walked back by on my way out, one of them said, "Don't mind him---he's just a fan of The Cure and thinks he's Robert Smith..." I said, "Well, at least he's got great musical taste!" :P

Lyrics:

Why Can't I Be You? The Cure

You're so gorgeous I'll do anything
I'll kiss you from your feet
To where your head begins
You're so perfect you're so right as rain
You make me
Make me hungry again
Everything you do is irresistable
Everything you do is simply kissable
Why can't I be you?

I'll run around in circles
Til I run out of breath
I'll eat you all up
Or I'll just hug you to death
You're so wonderful
Too good to be true
You make me
Make me hungry for you

Everything you do is simply delicate
Everything you do is quite angelicate
Why can't I be you?

You turn my head when you turn around
You turn the whole world upside down
I'm smitten I'm bitten I'm hooked I'm cooked
I'm stuck like glue
You make me
Make me hungry for you

Everything you do is simply dreamy
Everything you do is quite delicious
Why can't I be you?
Why can't I be you?
Why can't I be you?

1. I'm a huge Cure fan too.
Edited on Sun Oct-22-06 09:12 PM by Kutjara
My favorite song of theirs is:

Just Like Heaven

"Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

5. I love that song...
It has a tendency to make me cry, though. It's really a bittersweet song. But I love it anyway. :)

51. Ahhh, the Cure
HUGE fan here.

A guy I knew in college was trying to woo me, and played a double shot of Just Like Heaven with Why Can't I Be You during his on-campus radio show. He coordinated with my roommate to make sure she'd turn in on in time for me to hear him dedicate it to the "hottest, sweetest, funniest, coolest chick on campus."

And I have to admit, he got me after that. He was kinda Cure-goth-media-theater type, whereas I was the good-girl, preppy-yet-trendy type, so before that, I couldn't see how it would ever work. Yet it did, while we were in school, anyway.

2. this time of year, and yeah I guess it has a certain cheese factor
Well, its a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
neath the cover of october skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And Im trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the nights magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

Chorus:
Can I just have one a more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I cant wait til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that youre never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you cant hide

One more moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night
Cant I just have one more dance with you my love

7. but my all around and forever theme song is probably--
and there she was~talking heads

And she was lying in the grass
And she could hear the highway breathing
And she could see a nearby factory
Shes making sure she is not dreaming
See the lights of a neighbors house
Now shes starting to rise
Take a minute to concentrate
And she opens up her eyes

The world was moving and she was right there with it (and she was)
The world was moving she was floating above it (and she was) and she was

And she was drifting through the backyard
And she was taking off her dress
And she was moving very slowly
Rising up above the earth
Moving into the universe
Drifting this way and that
Not touching ground at all
Up above the yard

She was glad about it... no doubt about it
She isnt sure where shes gone
No time to think about what to tell them
No time to think about what shes done
And she was

And she was looking at herself
And things were looking like a movie
She had a pleasant elevation
Shes moving out in all directions

Joining the world of missing persons (and she was)
Missing enough to feel alright (and she was)

3. California dreamin
All the leaves are brown
All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
And the sky is grey
Ive been for a walk
Ive been for a walk
On a winters day
On a winters day
Id be safe and warm
Id be safe and warm
If I was in l.a.
If I was in l.a.
California dreamin
California dreamin
On such a winters day

Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees
Got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray
I pretend to pray
You know the preacher likes the cold
Preacher likes the cold
He knows Im gonna stay
Knows Im gonna stay
California dreamin
California dreamin
On such a winters day

All the leaves are brown
All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
And the sky is grey
Ive been for a walk
Ive been for a walk
On a winters day
On a winters day
If I didnt tell her
If I didnt tell her
I could leave today
I could leave today
California dreamin

On such a winters day
California dreaming
On such a winters day
California dreaming
On such a winters day

6. We Belong Together - Mariah Carey
We Belong Together ~

I didn’t mean it when I said
I didn’t love you so
I should have held on tight
I never should have let you go
I didn’t know nothing,
I was stupid, I was foolish
I was lying to myself
I couldn’t have fathomed
I would ever be without your love
Never imagined I’d be sitting
Here beside myself
Guess I didn’t know you
Guess I didn’t know me
But I thought I knew everything
I never felt

The feeling that I’m feeling
Now that I don’t hear your voice
Or have your touch and kiss your lips
Cause I don’t have a choice
Oh what I wouldn’t give
To have you lying by my side
Right here cause baby

When you left I lost a part of me
It’s still so hard to believe
Come back baby please 'cause
We belong together
Who else am I gonna lean on when times get rough
Who’s gonna talk to me on the phone
Till the sun comes up
Who’s gonna take your place
There ain’t nobody better
Oh baby baby
We belong together

I can’t sleep at night
When you are on my mind
Bobby Womack’s on the radio
Singing to me “If You Think You’re Lonely Now”
Wait a minute this is too deep
I gotta change the station
So I turn the dial tryin’ to catch a break
And then I hear Babyface
“I Only Think Of You” and it’s breakin’ my heart
I’m tryin’ to keep it together but I’m falling apart

I’m feeling all out of my element
Throwing things, crying tryin’
To figure out where the hell I went wrong
The pain reflected in this song
Ain’t even half of what I’m feeling inside
I need you, need you back in my life baby

When you left I lost a part of me
It’s still so hard to believe
Come back baby please cause
We belong together
Who else am I gonna lean on when times get rough
Who’s gonna talk to me on the phone
Till the sun comes up
Who’s gonna take your place
There ain’t nobody better
Oh baby, baby
We belong together

When you left I lost a part of me
It’s still so hard to believe
Come back baby please 'cause
We belong together
Who am I gonna lean on when times get rough
Who’s gonna talk to me till the sun comes up
Who’s gonna take your place
There ain’t nobody better
Oh baby, baby
We belong together

12. "The New Black" by Every Time I Die
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EotznoKUm9Q

Baby you got me all wrong.
And maybe I’m not at all down and out.
I’m high and I’m in.
Don’t you know who I am.
I’m the jaded one with pop insensitivity.
When I finish struggling,
We can make our way to the dance floor and stand like strangers in an elevator
Stuck between stories.
I always find myself in the middle of your stories.
With the cameras as a witness I will suffer.
Everything I do is wrong.
But by god I do it right.

We don’t dance no no no.
We got class.
No we don’t have any fun at all.
It’s the new style and we know it.
We’re not stunning, we’re just stunned and we’re lying for a living.
Don’t you know who I am.
I’m the real thing with low-key sensibilities.
I don’t need what I’ve got half as much as everyone covets it.
If loving me is wrong, then god damn you do it right, it turns us on to turn you down.

13. I think I might be genetically Jersey. I have two songs currently...
"Born to Run" -Springsteen
In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway american dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected and steppin out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
Its a death trap, its a suicide rap
We gotta get out while were young
`cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs round these velvet rims
And strap your hands across my engines
Together we could break this trap
Well run till we drop, baby well never go back
Will you walk with me out on the wire
`cause baby Im just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta find out how it feels
I want to know if love is wild, girl I want to know if love is real

Beyond the palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard
The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors
And the boys try to look so hard
The amusement park rises bold and stark
Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
I wanna die with you wendy on the streets tonight
In an everlasting kiss

The highways jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybodys out on the run tonight but theres no place left to hide
Together wendy well live with the sadness
Ill love you with all the madness in my soul
Someday girl I dont know when were gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go and well walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us baby we were born to run

And this isn't a Jersey song, but I've been listening to it like crazy lately, and it's about democracy. It has a really good beat and definitely gets the blood pumping.

"Raspberry Swirl" -Tori Amos

i am not senorita
i am not from your tribe
in the garden i did no crime
i am not your senorita
i am not from your tribe
if you want inside her
well,
boy you better make her raspberry swirl
things are getting desperate
when all the boys can't be men
everybody knows i'm her friend
everybody knows i'm her man
i'm not your senorita
i don't aim so high
in my heart i do no crime
if you want inside her
well,
boy you better make her raspberry swirl

"Raspberry Swirl" -Tori Amos

14. This.
Workin in the field till you get your back burned
Workin `neath the wheels till you get your facts learned.
Baby I got my facts learned real good right now.
You better get it straight darling:
Poor men wanna be rich, rich men wanna be kings,
And a king aint satisfied till he rules everything.
I wanna go out tonight, I wanna find out what I got.
Now I believe in the love that you gave me.
I believe in the faith that could save me.
I believe in the hope and I pray that some day it
Will raise me above these

Badlands..

For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it aint no sin to be glad youre alive.
I wanna find one face that aint looking through me
I wanna find one place, I wanna spit in the face of these

Badlands you gotta live it every day
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price youve gotta pay
Well keep pushin till its understood
And these badlands start treating us good

15. The good life weezer
(yeah, check me)
When I look in the mirror
I cant believe what I see
Tell me whos that funky dude
Starin back at me
Broken beaten down
Cant even get around
Without an old man came
I fall and hit the ground
Shivering in the cold bitter and alone
Excuse the bitchin
I shouldnt complain
I should have no feeling
cause feeling is pain
As everything I need
Is denied me
Everything I want
Is taken away from me
But who do I got to blame
Nobody but me
And I dont wanna be an old man anymore
Its been a year or two since
I was out on the floor
Shakin booty making sweet love all the night
Its time I got back to the good life
Its time I got back
Its time I got back
And I dont even know how I got off the track
I wanna go back, yeah
Screw this crap Ive had it
I aint no mr. cool
Im a pig Im a dog
So scuse me if I drool
I aint gonna hurt nobody
Aint gonna cause a scene
Just need to admit that I want sugar in my tea
Hear me? hear me? I want sugar in my tea
Chorus
I wanna go back
I wanna go back
And I dont even know how I got off the track
Its time I got back
Its time I got back
And I dont even know how I got off the track
I wanna go back, yeah
Chorus

Sonny Came Home
Pretty much sums it up:

Sunny Came Home Lyrics

Sonny came home to her favorite room
Sonny sat down in the kitchen
She opened a book and a box of tools
Sonny came home with a mission

She says days go by I am hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire

Sonny came home with a list of names
She didn't believe in transcendence
It's time for a few small repairs she said
Sonny came home with a vengeance

She says days go by I don't know why I am hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire

Get the kids and bring a sweater
Dry is good and wind is better
Count the years, you always knew it
Strike a match, go on and do it

Days go by I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire

Light the sky and hold on tight
The world is burning down
She's out there on her own and she's alright
Sonny came home
Sonny came home...

22. Wildflower by Skylark
I was hoping by now this would change, but so far it hasn't.

Wildflower

She's faced the hardest times
you could imagine
and many times her eyes fought back the tears
and when her youthful world
was about to fall in
each time her slender shoulders
bore the weight of all her fears
and a sorrow no one hears
still rings in midnight silence,
in her ears

Let her cry, for she's a lady
let her dream, for she's a child
let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower,
growing wild

and if by chance I should hold her
let me hold her for a time
but if allowed just one possession
I would pick her from the garden,
to be mine

Be careful how you touch her,
for she'll awaken
and sleep's the only freedom that she knows
and when you walk into her eyes,
you won't believe
the way she's always paying
for a debt she never owes
and a silent wind still blows
that only she can hear and so she goes

Let her cry, for she's a lady
let her dream, for she's a child

let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower,
growing wild

Good ol' "Freebird". I don't give a rats ass what others in here or elsewhere think, that is not only one of the greatest Rock anthems ever, it also sort of describes my life. Yes, I have settled down, but the Free Bird inside me (and all of us) will live on forever. I'm old kiddies.

27. Wings of a Butterfly by HIM
Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice

Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul

This endless mercy mile
We're crawling side by side
With hell freezing over in our eyes
Gods kneel before our crime

Come on lets show, them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don't let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
For your soul

Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don't let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)

For your soul

~*~Sweet Leaf ~*~

Alright now!
Won't you listen?

When I first met you, didn't realize
I can't forget you or your surprise
You introduced me to my mind
And left me wanting you and your kind

I love you. Oh you know it.

My life was empty forever on a down
Until you took me, showed me around
My life is free now, my life is clear
I love you sweet leaf - though you can't hear,

Come on now - try it out

Straight people don't know what you're about
They put you down and shut you out
You gave to me a new belief
And soon the world will love you sweet leaf.

I kid you not........it was one of the reasons I married him!

He also plays a lot of classical..........

And here's a pic of him at that piano........it's a Kuwaii. Parlor grand.

35. Current earworm is "Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash.....
Johnny Cash Lyrics

I Walk The Line Lyrics

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

36. Prelude #2 of the "Three Preludes" by George Gershwin. In fact, I am
listening to it as I am typing this. It perfectly embodies the mood of my life at this time. Somewhat melancholy, but with a sudden ray of bright hope in the middle.

42. "Out Of My Head" by Fastball.
Sometimes I feel
Like I am drunk behind the wheel
The wheel of possibility
However it may roll
Give it a spin
See if you can somehow factor in
You know there's always more than one way
To say exactly what you mean to say

Was I out of my head? was I out of my mind?
How could I have ever been so blind?
I was waiting for an indication
It was hard to find
Don't matter what I say, only what I do
I never mean to do bad things to you
So quiet but I finally woke up
If you're sad then its time that you spoke up too

44. I have two I've been hearing in my head all day
both apply:

Hey Jealousy, by the Gin Blossoms:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnfigQ43EjE

Tell me do you think itd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see Im in no shape for driving
And anyway Ive got no place to go
And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I'd ever had
If I hadnt blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone
Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place...hey jealousy
And you can trust me not to think
And not to sleep around
If you dont expect too much from me
You might not be let down...

and

You're Beautiful, by James Blunt

You're beautiful.
You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.I saw your face in
a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,'
Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful.
You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel
with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to
face the truth,I will never be with you.

46. Have 2 right now
Current Earworm is "RENT"

MARK
How do you document real life when real life's getting more like fiction each day?
Headlines - bread-lines blow my mind
And now this deadline "Eviction - or pay"
Rent!

ROGER
How do you write a song when the chords sound wrong,
though they once sounded right and rare? When the notes are sour
Where is the power you once had to ignite the air?

MARK
And we're hungry and frozen

ROGER
Some life that we've chosen

ROGER & MARK
How we gonna pay? How we gonna pay?
How we gonna pay? Last year's rent?

ROGER
How do you start a fire when there's nothing
to burn and it feels like something's stuck in your flue?

MARK
How can you generate heat
When you can't feel your feet?

ROGER & MARK
And they're turning blue!

MARK
You light up a mean blaze

ROGER
With posters -

MARK
And screenplays

ROGER & MARK
How we gonna pay? How we gonna pay?
How we gonna pay? Last year's rent?

COLLINS
How do you stay on your feet when on every street
It's "trick or treat" and tonight it's "trick"
"Welcome back to town" I should lie down
Everything's brown, and uh-oh
I feel sick

MARK
Where is he?

COLLINS
Getting dizzy

ROGER & MARK
How we gonna pay

TENANTS
How we gonna pay
How we gonna pay

ROGER, MARK & TENANTS
Last year's rent

MARK
"The music ignites the night with passionate fire"

ROGER
"The narration crackles and pops with incendiary wit"

MARK
Zoom in as they burn the past to the ground

ROGER & MARK
And feel the heat of the future's glow
How do you leave the past behind
When it keeps finding ways to get to your heart?
It reaches way down deep and tears you inside out
"Til you're torn apart
Rent!

ROGER, MARK & TENANTS
How can you connect in an age
Where strangers, landlords, lovers
Your own blood cells betray!
What binds the fabric together
When the ringing, shifting winds of change
Keep ripping away!

BENNY
Draw a line in the sand
And then make a stand!

ROGER
Use your camera to spar

MARK
Use your guitar

TENANTS
When they act tough - you call their bluff

ROGER & MARK
We're not gonna pay

ROGER, MARK & TENANTS
We're not gonna pay
We're not gonna pay
Last year's rent! This year's rent!
Next year's rent
Rent rent rent rent rent
We're not gonna pay rent!!
'Cause everything is RENT!!!

========================================

My theme song though is "Silent All These Years" by Tori Amos

Excuse me but can I be you for a while
My dog won't bite if you sit real still
I got the anti-Christ in the kitchen yellin' at me again
Yeah I can hear that
Been saved again by the garbage truck
I got something to say you know
But nothing comes
Yes I know what you think of me
You never shut-up
Yeah I can hear that

But what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of his
With her name still on it
Hey but I don't care
Cause sometimes
I said sometimes
I hear my voice
And it's been here
Silent All These Years

So you found a girl
Who thinks really deep thougts
What's so amazing about really deep thoughts
Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon
How's that thought for you
My scream got lost in a paper cup
You think there's a heaven
Where some screams have gone
I got 25 bucks and a cracker
Do you think it's enough
To get us there

Cause what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of his
With her name still on it
Hey but I don't care
Cause sometimes
I said sometimes
I hear my voice
And it's been here
Silent All These...

Years go by
Will I still be waiting
For somebody else to understand
Years go by
If I'm stripped of my beauty
And the orange clouds
Raining in my mind
Years go by
Will I choke on my tears
Till finally there is nothing left
One more casualty
You know we're too easy Easy Easy

Well I love the way we communicate
Your eyes focus on my funny lip shape
Let's hear what you think of me now
But baby don't look up
The sky is falling
Your mother shows up in a nasty dress
It's your turn now to stand where I stand
Everybody lookin' at you here
Take hold of my hand
Yeah I can hear them

But what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of his
With her name still on it
Hey but I don't care
Cause sometimes
I said sometimes
I hear my voice

And it's been here
Silent All These Years
I've been here
Silent All These Years

48. "Dreamers on the Rise"...
...by John Stewart (and it takes someone my age to realize that this is the John Stewart from the Kingston Trio, not the Jon Stewart from The Daily Show).

Oh, once we were dreamers on the rise,
We were the sun where the sun never shines,
And we were gold where the night bird only flies.
Oh, that's a long time, you know,
For that kind of wind to blow,
Long time ago we were dreamers on the rise.

And twice we said we'd begin again,
And we made a vow that we'd remain as friends,
And, falling down, we said we shall rise again.
Oh, that's a long time, you know,
For that kind of wind to blow,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the mend,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the mend.

And if three wishes came into my life,
I'd say one was to gaze into your eyes,
And I'd say two would be turning back our lives.
But three's a long way to go
For that kind of wind to blow,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the rise,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the rise.

Oh, once we were dreamers on the rise,
We were the sun where the sun never shines,
And we were gold where the night bird only flies.
Oh, that's a long time, you know,
For that kind of wind to blow,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the rise,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the rise,
Long time ago, we were dreamers on the rise.

That third verse gets to me, every time.

50. Witness, Sarah McLachlan
Make me a witness
take me out
out of darkness
out of doubt

I won't weigh you down
with good intention
won't make fire out of clay
or other inventions

will we burn in heaven
like we do down here
will the change come
while we're waiting

everyone is waiting

and when we're done
soul searching
as we carried the weight
and died for the cause
is misery
made beautiful
right before our eyes
will mercy be revealed
or blind us where we stand

will we burn in heaven
like we do down here
will the change come while we're waiting
everyone is waiting
