Why did Janis Joplin have to die yet Brittney Spears
will probably live to be 100.

Oh, I know she did a shit load of drugs and all, but damnit, I'm listening to "Summertime" right now and holy shit that girl had pipes. What a loss. And who would have thought that a button-nosed pixie would sing like that.

18. Agreed
20 years from now it will be "Britney who?" but you can say Janis Joplin and most people even if they haven't heard her will have heard of her.
Unless Kevin Federline pulls the same type of Bobby Brown shit with his wife then you'll see Britney in the media and the tabloids with black eyes in court and bailing him out of jail all the time.

But let's hope not. Let them go away and live happily ever after.

3. At least we have Joss Stone and she does have pipes close to Joplin.
I think she's only like 17 or 18.

Here's a video of her and Melissa Etheridge doing a Joplin tribute.

5. Nice song
I hadn't heard Joss Stone before now. She kicks pretty hard, but to be honest...

I think Melissa had the better vocals on that song. And she is sexy when she's bald, too...I had a think for Sinead O'Connor, too. Even moreso after she ripped up the picture of the pope. (I thought about that the other day with your picture of the stilleto and the bible).

8. agree with you about Joss Stone
I showed this to my husband and we both agreed she kicked ass, but still Melissa was a whole lot better.

10. Check out Kathryn Koch of Redheaded Stepchild
Doesn't quite have the pipes, but she's got her own brand of soul.

What's bizarre, though, is the resemblance.

25. Yeah, but you also have to recognize that Stone is only 16 there.
I love Etheridge. I've seen her a few times and have all but her last CD.

I also think that Joss Stone will grow into a force to be reckoned with. Most of the other kids her age in the music industry are putting out pop crap and still don't have the vocal skills that she does.

22. If you like Joss Stone, check out Mieka Pauley.

The first time I heard Joss Stone, I thought it was Mieka Pauley, and it's happened EVERY TIME since. And Mieka was doing it first. :)

24. Nope
she re-sings Joplin's recording note for note. And vocal gymnastics are meaningless (ala Mariah Carey) unless they're PURPOSELY placed there FOR A REASON -- and ornaments, like spices, can be overused and placed in the wrong place (think cayenne pepper on your grapefruit).

However, she's young and has time to get her own style.

4. If Janis had ever had a stage mother like Brittney,
She'd still be alive. Janis went it alone. Cry Baby.

6. Of course if she had a stage mother like Brittney,
she would have been forced to sell out and sing bubblegum crap.

9. And probably be singing on Broadway now.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Lose a lot af the music, but she's still alive.

7. I was watching the Biography Channel's take on Janis' life not long ago
and I was amazed by her all over again. She had AMAZING control of dynamics. She could go from screaming to a breathy whisper in the blink of an eye, and make you strain for every word. She was one of a kind.

15. Can't inject a heaping batch of heroin and expect to live long.
Combined with Suth'un Cumfut, and it tends to become bad for the heart and all.

The worst thing Titney does is smoke Marble Row lights and shoot out F-Ked's progenies.

16. I guess cause Brittney is smarter and more well-adjusted
It's not like fate or an act of god killed Joplin. She killed herself. Brittney so far has been smarter than that.

Joplin was an amazing talent, who made amazingly stupid decisions. Brittney is a slightly-better-than-average talent, and has made only slightly-stupider-than-average decisions. Advantage Brittney.

but a dead Joplin is still more talented than live Spears.

I don't think anyone will be talking about how great Britney is 30 years after she shuffles off this mortal coil.
