My neighbor's a Republican.
Edited on Sun Oct-22-06 10:57 PM by Starbucks Anarchist
No, he didn't tell me he was a Republican, but I just figured it out.

He lives in the apartment above me and has previously complained about my smoking inside my apartment because the smell would pass through his floor. That was a perfectly understandable complaint, and I promised to smoke far less inside and use better air freshener.

But just now, he came by and complained about the air freshener giving him an allergic reaction, so I promised to use a different kind of air freshener to help him out.

Anyway, he mentioned he called the cops on his other neighbor because the neighbor was smoking weed inside his own apartment -- this set my Republidar off. Then he asked me if I smoked weed, as if that was any of his business. However, I didn't want the cops to visit, so I said no.

This didn't take place in a small town or the Deep South -- this was in New York City! If there's any place where you are almost guaranteed to be free of uptight assholes on a daily basis, it's this place.

Guess I gotta puff somewhere else then.

EDIT: This guy's a loan officer who offered to help me in some future investing scenarios I mentioned (when I actually have money, that is) -- guess whether or not I'm gonna use him now?

14. Calling the cops on someone doing it privately in his own place?
I think that's overstepping it -- it's not like the guy's neighbor was selling it to kids or something.

Why can't he just mind his own damn business?

He's either a Dem/Progressive or not.

The dude is a tool for complaining about the cigarette smoking that someone is doing inside his own apartment. He needs to complain to the landlord if the floor/ceiling is so uninsulated. His carping about the air freshener just shows what a tool he is.

34. Did he have a video camera in the neighbors apt...
Or was it the stink that gave the neighbor away?

I've had enough rotten apartment neighbors for a lifetime and that's with less than 3 years of apartment living in two different places.

Is it really that much to ask that the downstairs neighbors not deal drugs?

Is it really too much to ask that the two single mothers with 4 kids ask their ex-husbands not come by at 2AM and yell for 30 minutes?

Is it too much to ask that the upstairs college kid not throw fucking parties until 5am?

Or the two college kids next door be halfway quite at 3Am?

Where to hell do you have to go to have respectable neighbors?

Yet these numbnuts didn't know the meaning of keep it low. Stupid kids would hurl themselves against the walls (or so it seemed) yelled screamed and everything else. One neighbor got a little dog and when they let it out it'd shit on my door mat and they never would clean it up. To me this isn't something that I should have to ask. I'd just pick mat and all up and toss the dog crap over in front of their door. After a few weeks I just moved my mat over next to theirs and the problem was solved.

Man I'm glad my years of living in apartments are over....

Oh and we're finally closing on the sale of our home this WED. Now the search for a new Home starts over again.

Where do you recommend: Winston Salem, Durham, Raleigh??? Wife wants to return for her PA.

This guy's clearly not from here originally (though I also just moved here, but I'm not an uptight prick). What's funny is that his job entails at least some hobnobbing with Wall Street guys, some of whom are likely cokeheads.

Of course, he wouldn't call the cops on them because it's bad for business. Better to rat out your neighbor who is in far worse financial straits, I guess.

you pay rent, if you want to smoke, then smoke. You lost the battle and let him control you when you first said you would smoke less.

You might as well while its still legal...

Now hes going to whine about every little thing that gets his tighty whiteys in an uproar.

26. He has an allergic reaction to cigarette smoke.
I'm more than willing to cater to him in that respect because I'm a considerate smoker -- same reason I wouldn't smoke around someone with an oxygen tank.

However, he called the cops on his other neighbor simply because they were smoking pot, not because of an allergic reaction, which is what I have a problem with.

28. Nah.
In my old building, the apartment below me turned over every year or so. A lot of mail was left in the lobby, so you could see what people were getting. One tenant had a subscription to National Review and got mail from the RNC. Perfectly nice guy, quiet--a little bit creepy, but a decent neighbor. After he moved out, the new tenants had a subscription to The New Republic and would get drunk and sing at the top of their voices at 4 am. Complete idiots. Although, technically, subscribers to TNR aren't really Democrats, I guess.

Shitty neighbors aren't unique to either side of the aisle.
