US Bans Vegemite?!
US bans Vegemite

The United States has slapped a ban on Vegemite, outraging Australian expatriates there.
The bizarre crackdown was prompted because Vegemite contains folate, which in the US can be added only to breads and cereals.

Expatriates say that enforcement of the ban has been stepped up recently and is ruining lifelong traditions of having Vegemite on toast for breakfast.

Former Geelong man Daniel Fogarty, who now lives in Calgary, Canada, said he was stunned when searched while crossing the US border recently.

"The border guard asked us if we were carrying any Vegemite," Mr Fogarty said.

"I was flabbergasted." Paul Watkins, who owns a store called About Australia in San Antonio, Texas, said he had been forced to stop importing Vegemite six months ago.

"We have completely stopped bringing it in," he said.

"(US authorities) have made a stance and there is nothing that can be done about it."

56. They're the same thing...
Just different chemical forms of the same B vitamin. ('Folic acid' generally refers to the synthetic form while folate often means the naturally occuring varieties.)

Seriously the stuff is definately an aquired taste. If you can eat an anchovy you might like it. It is however the best beef stock substitute when making vegitarian soups.

Mostly because it's so viscous that it just attaches itself to everything. In HS, my friends and I tried most of the stuff from www.bad-candy.com Yep, we were self-destructive idiots. I've probably done more damage to myself with that shit, than I have with drugs, which is relatively impressive.

Kanga steaks are very yummie, I agree. Not quite as nice as reindeer, though, and, with the latter, there's always the chance you'll be the lucky one that gets the glowing red nose.

38. The greatest song ever that mentions Vegemite.
Possibly also the only song that mentions Vegemite, but still...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1AT7V4-E8

"Down Under" - Men at Work

Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,

"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,

"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
And he said,

"Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."
