What I did Sunday (dial-up warning)
Went with my BIL and niece to the British sports car show in San Juan Bautista. :7

•The parade of class winners rolls through town. (I once drove an MG about the same vintage as the one in front.)

•Becca, my niece, thinks she's gonna steal a Morris Minor 1000.

•I thought this was the coolest one there — a Thames Freighter 800.

•Becca called this one the Cruella DeVille car.

•Me'n John hanging near a building at Mission San Juan Bautista.

8. I got tons more pics
But I didn't wanna suck up all of DU's bandwidth or bore a lotta folks with car shots. There was a lotta really sweet British iron there, though — 172 cars were entered.

Oh — afterward, we went to San Juan Bakery and I turned my niece on to baklava. :9

2. Nice Morgan...
Plus Four or Plus Eight? Can't really tell from the picture.

Personally, I prefer the classic British sports cars to their Italian counterparts...my favourites:

12. That what it is?
I dunno. They said there was one Morgan entered, but I couldn't tell which one it was without getting close. Mostly, I was looking at the old MGs, the TR-4s and the Sprites. There were also three or four Sunbeam Tigers that made me think, "Hey, Maxwell Smart!" :7

There was one car there I'd never heard of — a Nash-Healey. Built in Britain with some Nash parts. A guy told me there were only 400-something made and only 90 left. It looked like a Nash from the front (that classic oval grille) and a skinny '49 Chevy from the back.

23. Yeah, the Cruella de Ville-mobile is a Morgan...
probably a Plus Four (last car still being made that uses largely wooden framing for the body, I believe).

I've seen a Nash-Healey before; there was one at a car show here a few years back (I think my favourite American/British hybrid of the early '50's is probably the Allard J2, though).

5. I didn't own the MG
I drove it onto the stage at the Christie's auction at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance in... 1997, I think. Lucked out and got in with the group that was hired to do that. It was a red '36 with right-hand drive, a bad clutch and no knob on the shifter. (Ow.)

I also drove a '48 Cadillac V-12, a '53 Mercedes sedan with German instrumentation and a '74 Ferrari GT-4. The Ferrari in front of me when I drove that one was the one driven by Raul Julia in "Gumball Rally." I dunno what it sold for, but "mine" went for $440,000.

That was a fun day, too. :7

And you starch the hell out of the scarf so it's always flyin' back, even when you're standing still.

Seriously, you ever drive a little bitty car? I've driven my BIL's Spitfire, and when you're in traffic it's kind of intimidating. A freakin' Pinto's bigger'n you.

25. Yeah, driving a Miata on the freeway can be a rather unnerving experience.
I always worry I'll be in some truck driver's blind spot when he decides to change lanes. Lot of fun on a twisty two-lane road, though.

31. Well...
The top came up to about the middle of my rib cage. I'm 6' 2", so your mileage may vary.

I dunno what happened to all the Pintos. I still see a Vega once in awhile, but never a Pinto. So maybe they did all go floomph.

37. Very Nice
I've owned both a Spitfire and an AH 3000 in the past. When I owned the Healy my brother had a Spitfire, my best friend had a GT6(still has it), his brother had a AH Sprite and the guy down the street had a TR3. We spent every other weekend doing tuneups.
