No fluff here. You'll see both the good and the bad about all kinds of neat neighborhoods in NYC.

Shame about the meat-packing district, it sounds like it was a great neighbourhood. It reminds me of Smithfield in London and seems to be going the same way :(

I've never visited the USA but I've always wanted to visit NYC, (and NO and SF) they strike me as the only real cities in America, maybe Chicago as well.

Sadly,it seems that NYC, same as the nearest city to me this side of the pond (Liverpool), has become increasingly gentrified and consequently deadly dull. Upmarket housing conversions are taking over neighbourhoods that used to be thriving, lively & full of character.

in Flushing, I was almost happy to forget. Love the Queens Alleys as well. One of them which runs by Flushing Town Hall was an absolute dump when i lived in the area: nothing but crack smokers and graffiti writers. lovely. Love the Pomonok bit, too: they just barely mention that it is mostly comprosed of a fucking housing project since way back: the very name of it would strike fear into people all through the 80's and early 90's. I an't believe Peck's is still open on main Street. We used to boost spray paint and design markers from that place back in the day - run right out on to Main Street and get lost in the crowd...zoink. And of course they have a picture of my old alma mater:
