Kid birthday parties: the difference between Girls and Boys

My daughter turns 10 this Friday and she really wants to do a "Tea Party" theme for her and her friends this year, complete with tea poured from our silver tea set, served in the lovely bone china, fancy schmancy tea sandwiches, strawberries filled with cream, special bd cake, the works...So, we've invited the girls to come all dressed up in their best dresses and to wear fancy hats. My hubby and son will wear their tux and suit, respectively, and be the "butlers" for the occasion. We'll play fun and feminine little parlor games like pin the teabag on the teacup, a dress-up relay, posture game, and we'll wrap it up with doing make-overs for the girls with make-up, lip gloss, etc..and do a photo shoot. :eyes: This is ALL her idea, trust me.

My son, on the other hand, is turning 13 in a couple of weeks. He wants to invite 6 or 7 of his best friends for a sleepover party, during which time they will consume nothing but JUNK FOOD for the entire evening and stay up all night. He basically wants to eat all the shit we hardly ever let him eat normally. On the menu so far: a 10-pak of tacos from Taco Bell, pizza, White Castle hamburgers (no, we can't get them fresh out here on the west coast, but we can get them frozen to cook up. Oh joy.), chips (Pringles), candy (Popables, M&M's, Skittles), soda, popcorn, ice cream, birthday PIE,(from Costco, no less!)His plan for entertainment: watch the silly movies "Kung Pow!" and "UHF", play games like Mummy Wrap with toilet paper, a blind soda-tasting contest, and a game of "Who Knows the Birthday Boy the Best?" :eyes: You would not believe how excited and thrilled he is by the prospect of having a Junk Food Birthday Party, seriously. We're gonna let him do it, cuz how many times do you turn 13? Plus, it's his Golden Birthday, he's turning 13 on the 13th, making it Extra Special.

Yes, I can speak with first-hand knowledge that the difference between girls and boys is HUGE. They are completely different creatures. :D Now, let the partying begin!!

Granted, I turned out gay, but she didn't and we both had birthday parties like your son. The only big expensive parties I remember either of us having was I had one at the roller rink with a Ghostbusters theme when I was 7 or 8. My sister had her 6th (I think) birthday at Discovery Zone. I guess our parents got lucky.

however, I just ordered her fancy schmancy bd cake from the super-incredible local bakery we frequent and it is definitely NOT cheap. Jeez...oh well, we'll make it up getting our son the bd pie from Costco! :rofl:

We're sort of in loco grandparentis.
Once in a while Miz t. has the girls and mommy over for a tea party.
She keeps a box of old clothes they use for dress up.
It's a big hit.

Our 4 year old grandson says "yuck".
He wants a Spiderman party.

Very cute.

We did a Spiderman themed party for our son one year. Yup, been there.

Funny as hell.

But I was never a typical girl anyway. When my only neighbor kid (I lived in the boonies) wanted to play with Barbies and baby dolls, I invented games in which we were on a plane that crashed in the jungle and had to survive by our wits (with our babies - hence the dolls) or in which one Barbie was murdered and thrown in the river (the brook behind her house) and the others had to solve the murder.

I did teach her how to climb trees and track animals, though.

Yeah, we'll have fun with BOTH the parties. I'm looking forward to them, actually, simply because they'll be soooooo different.

if your 10-year-old daughter wanted to do the Junk Food Birthday Party and your 13-year-old son wanted his friends to have a photo shoot with their makeup done. Yeah, there's nothing like getting your ass kicked for your 13th birthday to let you know who your friends are.

Incidentally...the mummy they're wrapping with toilet paper...it's not you, is it?

It'll be some sort of contest, where they divide into teams and my son wants to be the judge of which team does the best mummy.

I think it would be fun to be wrapped, though. Hmmmm...

Better put toilet paper on the Costco list! :D

There is a kind of paper towel that comes in continuous rolls, like for a dispenser, but it's really soft like...well, a slightly rough toilet tissue. In Germany it wasn't perforated, but it looks like Scott S-7725 (which is perfed) is the United States equivalent.

Your son and his friends will LOVE wrapping each other with the World's Biggest Rolls of Toilet Paper.

Unfortunately, it's kinda pricey.

My son didn't really care about having a birthday party. He figured he had his friends and things they liked to do, and that would happen regardless of whether or not you had a party.

My daughter - loves birthday parties, but wants to be part of the planning/organizing even when it's hers. I'm not sure if she actually enjoys that the most or having the "girl time" with her friends the most.

what can I say? In that sense, they definitely take after ME. :D LOL.

Both parties sound like they will be fun for them.

My 13th (and 14th) b-day was a BBQ Party at the lake. Had about 20 friends there, their parents as well, as well as a few friends of my parents and some neighbors. We played volleyball, football, had a sand castle building contest, and relay races. We also brought out our jetski's and boat to go tubing and waterski. Then that night we all went to my house for a sleepover where we played pool and video games, listened to music, etc. We all had a blast.

Now my 18th bday/graduation party was something to write home about. lol
