Anybody like Sake?

anybody into sake here?

i've been experimenting with it after sampling some at a local sushi place.

can anyone recommend some good sake? i have just been buying the cheaper stuff that you warm up.

I've had quite a bit of it in the past...I liked it very warm, borderline coffee/hot. I don't know what brand it was, but it went down smooth, and I was cutting through it like a rampaging beast...:)

just curious....i've seen on sushi menus that salmon is called sake in japanese. do you pronounce that the same way?

of hiragana and kanji there isn't any exceptions to pronunciation rules. If that makes sense. However, if written in the Japanese characters the two words would look different, although be pronounced the same. (Yay kanji... -_- )

Also, try nigori sake. It's the milky-white type, often called "clouds." Supposedly the way it was originally made. Pick a Japanese brand--the American-made stuff lacks some of the sophistication.

A place called Ogawa-machi. We had three local breweries, and I still bring home bottles every year when I visit.

Just a quick warning though, the real stuff will knock you flat off your feet without you even realizing you had too much to drink. The good stuff is too damn smooth.

I was at a work party where my sake cup kept getting refilled--I, honestly, drank 12 "shots" for lack of a better before I realized just how much I had downed. I proceeded to wake up 3 hours later under a sink in a restaurant's bathroom 3 towns over. I had also acquired a lava lamp, free passes to "Attack of the Clones", and a girl's phone number.

So yeah, be careful of the real stuff.

In her young and reckless days, she was no stranger to the booze and could just about out drink any person who challenged her...well one evening she had an encounter with that rice wine from hell and ended up having a "dude where's my car" experience and with scars on her knees from a fall into some bushes. So when she told me about this, I knew from a pro to stay away!

I had a little sip of it once, just enough to get the taste. (It was after I quit drinking.) Oh, and it was in a — I dunno the real word for this, so I'll just call it a sake cup. One of those square ones.

I don't really remember how it tasted, but I remember it was pretty strong.

I like the Momokawa Pearl Sake.
