Has Anyone Had Surgery for Deviated Septum
and if so was it successful?

How many days before you felt better?

1. PM Briarius
He's my husband, he had it... and I took care of him for 3-4 days afterward. Then there were some weeks of nose-washing, etc. He can tell you more about it.

3. It was successful,
and I too was back to normal in less than a week. The surgery made a huge difference in being able to breathe easily through my nose, and seemed to help my sense of smell a little bit (a mixed blessing in NYC.)

The first couple of days after were rough---swelling, nose packed with cotton, achey---but after the initial week there was no pain, bleeding or anything. It was a good move for me, and I was glad that after 30-some years it was finally discovered and fixed. (My deviation was mild/moderate: hadn't been noticed before by any doctor, until I got a new GP who was also a ear/nose/throat guy with that snaky 'scope for exams.)

Good luck! :)

5. I have
Mine, however, was almost 20 years ago. I understand that the procedure is a bit different now.

I went back to work a week later. It took a month or so for the swelling to completely leave, but after that, I could finally breathe out of my nose! :woohoo:

7. My sister did . . .
but I'm thinking the diagnosis of 'deviated septum' was merely for insurance purposes. She wanted a nose job.
