It's the body tubes that really fuck with people's heads. Spaces so tight you can only move by wiggling your toes and shoulders. I'm not up to that level of intensity yet. But I'm comfortable with hands and knees passage in water 15 inches deep with the ceiling pressing on your back and only a few inches of airspace, turning your head to keep your mouth out of the water, closing your eyes because the reflection of your headlamp shining off the moving water makes you want to vomit. But to real cavers I'm a wuss.

Among cavers, spelunk is the sound an idiot makes when he falls off a vertical wall into a pool of water. A spelunker is someone who "doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground." I used to go every other weekend, but thanks to World of Warcraft, I haven't been caving at all this year. I'm overdue.

Alison took a picture of me during a rest break about 80% of the way up the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It was the last leg of a trans-canyon trek, down from the north rim via the North Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch for the night, then up the Bright Angel to the south rim next day. We could only get reservations at Phantom Ranch during June where the day time temperature reached 112 in the shade both days.

We've done day hikes down Bright Angel. In April, we're planning a hike down South Kiabab, spending two nights on the floor and then returning up Bright Angel. PM me when you get a chance.

And your cat is a cutie also.
