My cell phone got run over by a car this morning. It's completely ruined.
I was out on a solo bike ride, about 10 miles from home, cruising down a bumpy isolated mountain road at about 25 mph, and the zipper on my front carrying case came enough undone for my cell phone to bounce right out, land on the ground....and get promptly run over by the car that apparently had been right behind me. It's totally crushed.

Great. Now I've gotta go deal with THAT today, on top of all my other stuff to do. Sigh...

Well, at least it wasn't ME that got run over by the car!

Despite the inconvenience, I still consider myself lucky. :D

6. Thanks, sweetie.
 It's not necessarily "bad" per se, just a bit strange. When I got to the gym, after my ride, there was a photographer there, out of the blue, asking if they could take pix of me and another person while we used the machines. I said yes, but how weird is that? They wanted to use them for upcoming ads, apparently.

Yes, it's been a strange day...

:hi:

16. LOL! No, the photographer was totally cheesy.
I was kvetching about how I didn't exactly look my best and he says, all smarmy-like, "Oh c'mon, you are the epitomy of the gym" :eyes: Gimme a frickin' break! Yeah, he was workin' it, alright. He just wanted a damn pix, he didn't care who it was.

Funny, huh?

8. Thanks, flamingyouth.
 The good news so far is my husband just happens to be working from home today and he was actually able to retrieve the 81 phone numbers that I had stored on the damn thing! He has a special program to do that and believe me, looking at this phone, you wouldn't think it were possible. So that has me a bit happier...But, the bad news is our phones were NOT insured, and we thought they were, so we're looking at spending some bucks to get it handled today. Oh well...Thanks again for your good wishes! :pals: :loveya:

13. Me too.
I think at minimum it's gonna set us back about $130, though. Grrr...they were supposed to be insured and my hubby had asked for all three of our lines in our family plan to be insured when we got our 12 yr old his first phone over the summer. Turns out they only insured HIS and not ours. :wtf: We hadn't noticed it b/c we didn't look at our bills that closely....until today. Oooops. :( C'est la vie.

4. Try letstalk.com
It searches cell phone plans, and shows what free phones (and even money-back phones) are available. And if you limit your search to your current carrier, you might be able to talk your carrier into giving you a free one, if you renew (or change to) one of their plans you find.

Just make you sure you go to an official Cingular/Verizon/T-Mobile/etc. store, and not one of the kiosks in the mall.

10. Good call! LOL! Pun intended.
:D Thanks for the tip, kay1864!

Turns out our plan and phones aren't up for renewal til Jan 30th of next year, plus the only phone in our plan that's insured is our 12 yr old son's, for some bizarre reason. We'd asked to have them ALL insured, but oh well, mine isn't. Great. So now I've gotta spend some bucks to get it handled today. I don't want to go for too long without having one, with kids and all, it's a safety issue...that's the bad news.

The good news is my techie hubby, who just happens to be working from home today, was able to retrieve all the 81 phone numbers that were on my phone with his handy dandy special program. :woohoo: It's a miracle, cuz the phone looks completely crushed. Weird.

:hi:

17. Jan 30th? That says "haggle with the store manager" to me...
After all, you don't *have* to renew the plan in Jan. Make sure he/she knows that ;)

IMHO you shouldn't have to shell out some bucks at all. Renewing your plan early is a BIG incentive for them to offer you a good deal.

But do check out the plans (esp. family plans) on letstalk, for your carrier. You might even want to switch to a new plan (which the store manager should be able to handle). And go into the store armed with that info (write down the plan names, and the models of phones you find that are free with rebates).

Either way, you should not have to pay for a new phone.

18. ack! That would totally screw me up
If they could not retrieve the phone book from it, I would lose everyones phone number. That would suck.

21. So that is your excuse
We have a nice time, I think you are interested and BAM! no call back. I only called you forty or forty-five times today. Then stopped by your house. Then where you work. Then by your friend's work and told them how badly you are treating me.

That's it. I am only going to call you eighty or more times more before I might get the hint!!!

22. UPDATE: Got a new phone for only $40! It's an exact replica of what I had....
not too bad, considering we did NOT have insurance or a replacement policy on this particular phone. :eyes: (Don't ask, long story...)

Luckily, my phone wasn't very fancy and the guy at the phone store happened to have a spare one just sitting around that he was willing to sell me at a very reasonable price.

AND, because my techie hubby was able to somehow retrieve all 81 of my phonebook numbers from the ruined phone and put them back onto the new one, I'm right back to where I started...and this phone is actually in BETTER condition than my old one was! :woohoo:

Funny, how it all worked out....and so quickly, too. :) Yahooo!

:hi:
