I really dislike Nicole Kidman......
Her main skill seems to be choosing really good movies to muck up with her blank stare. I've never seen her actually "act" in a movie. She just kind of exists in them much the same way a piece of scenery does.

She has been in some really good movies, but to me she is always the worst thing about all of them.

And as sexist as this may seem I truly believe she would not be half as famous today or get half the praise she does were it not for the Tom Cruise factor.

And much like her famous ex-Hubby I always feel like every cinematic move that either one of them make is totally calculated and thought out with an eye on the oscars.

1. My God!
I've been up 10 minutes and I feel the same way. The first thing I saw this morning was her picture on the Yahoo page. God I wish she would just grow old and become a hermit because being old is just too much for her. You know what I mean? I don't want to spend the next twenty years of my life looking at that increasingly plastic face.

3. Did you ever notice....
How she is one of the only celebrities where when they get their picture taken candidly by the paparazzi, still seems to be posing. All celebs pose on the red carpet for premieres and such. But when you would see pictures of her out casually with her family, she always still seems to be finding and looking directly into the camera. Most celebs in that situation look down or go about their business or hide their faces. She seems to actively seek it out.

2. perfectly cast in 'The Stepford Wives' !
;-)

I always thought 'To Die For' was a semi-autobiographical tale, without the murder.

What's up with her eyes/face lately???????
:scared:

4. Forget Nicole Kidman
if ever there was an overated actor it's Tom Cruise. On the female side I'd have to nominate Julia Roberts or Gweneyth Paltrow for that honor.

Nicole is ok IMHO.

5. I agree 100% about Tom Cruise...
He is just horrible as well. I think I dislike him more than Nicole, it's just that I've been hearing/reading/seeing a lot more about her so she was on my brain today unfortunately.

6. Now, now. Check her out in
Flirting (1991), a nice little flick.

:)

7. I saw it when it came out....
I was unimpressed. That was o.k. as was her performance in Dead Calm. It's when she became a star and was dubbed some form of latter day "it girl" that it started to be too much.

And even with Flirting....it's more her surrounder herself with a good movie and a good director rather than anything on her part.

8. I don't mind Kidman so much.
I've never been that impressed with Cruise. But Kidman does okay, sometimes I think better than Julia Roberts. I'm tired of Julia like I'm tired of seeing Jack Nicholson. His acting is great, but I'm sick of him. Overdone.

Kidman always looks fabulous. Beautiful skin and hair, tall, nice shape, great sense of style.

9. To DIe For.... Nicole gave a solid performance....
She's not my fave but she is capable...
Yeah, her celebrity is overblown but she still is
quite pretty.....especially her bod.
Yeah, Tom is a cluck but I always knew that about the overly self assured.

14. Saw her on a talk show a while back and she was awful...
seemed very self-involved. It was a bad interview. Bad. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other, but I do like it that she's "done better" in that odd Hollywood way than Cruise, whom I've never, ever found attractive or talented.

but if you want a nice bod, forget Nicole, go for Uma. Sheesh! I'm a happily married woman but I saw a photo of Uma in Vogue a few months back and it made me pause, she's got an amazing figure!

10. I rather like Nicole...
A certan calmness or passivity can work in a movie star--think Garbo, for example, or perhaps Kim Novak in Vertigo.

I like her in "Dead Calm," "To Die For," and "The Others."

She is a quiet, non-histrionic actress. And nice to look at when she wears her own nose.

17. I thought that WAS her nose in "The Hours."
;) Steve Martin had a great crack about that fake nose during the Oscar show last year... something about "finally, a movie in which they let Nicole wear her own nose." Funny.

I like Nicole Kidman.

11. Gee, I thought I was the only person on earth who can't stand Nicole
Edited on Fri Dec-26-03 10:25 AM by harper
Mainly I'm just sick of her. She has been seriously over exposed. All part of her master public relations plan I suppose. And, I don't like her looks. Too much gum when she smiles.

edited for spelling despite spellcheck.

12. Hooray! Finally, some sanity on DU!!!!! She is dreadful!
She is not even competent. Her performance in The Hours was laughingly bad! But if you really want to see how bad she can be, rent Portrait of a Lady--nothing but blank stares the entire movie--what a charmless, shallow, talentless so-and-so. Looks as if she's staring blankly in Cold Mountain, from what I can tell of the previews.

And you want to know something really awful, she has three Golden Globes, while the greatest actress of the 20th century--Katharine Hepburn--doesn't have one.

It's the greatest travesty since the dawn of man!!!!!!!

15. Well, shucks...I really like her
in whatever she's in. It's funny, though,......... my sister-in-law saw her in NY after an opera at the Met. She's a big fan, but she said that Nicole is "odd-looking" in real life. Way too thin, dead white skin, and a snakey neck. (And, as I said.....she's a fan!)

18. I don't mind her so much-there are definitely more annoying actresses
Nicole was good in "The Others" and "To Die For".

She wan't bad in "Malice" either.

I think she has more talent than her ex-husband.

19. I really like Nicole Kidman
Jeez, what's with all the vitriol against an immensely talented and beautiful actress like Kidman?
Besides being excellent in "To Die For", check her out back-to-back in "The Others" and "Moulin Rouge" to see what range she has. She's even extraordinary in throwaway movies like "The Birthday Girl" where she plays a Russian con artist and makes you believe she's Russian.

Pick on those who deserve it, like Julia Roberts, who's a star only, hardly an actor, or Kate Hudson, who is so-called "Hollywood Royalty" and would have to be because she shows no discernible talent.

Even Cruise isn't bad. Horrible high-pitched whiny voice when he gets excited but otherwise his acting is pretty solid for a movie star. Did you ever see "Born on the Fourth of July"? He's excellent. As he is in "Rain Man," "Magnolia," even "Jerry Maguire."

21. I don't like her either
I suppose she's an ok actress, I've only seen her in Moulin Rouge, nothing else, and that probably isn't the best thing to grade her on, eh?

I like Tom Cruise alright, he's pretty good. I liked Minority Report.
