I hate basketball players...a minor rant
Last night I went to work early. There was a basketball team coming into town (Pacers) and I wanted to be there if 2nd shift got busy plus allowing my boss to go home and a fellow worker to have the night off to celebrate with his family.

While I do not celebrate the holiday I think that people who go out on a holiday should be aware that the people who are serving them are likely giving up their holiday so that they can enjoy theirs and should tip appropriately (as long as the service is good, naturally).

Well, this basketball team comes in and orders from 2nd shift. Do you know that not ONE of these ball players tipped their servers any more than the 15% that is on the check?

Before anyone goes off on me about already getting 15% please remember that while I do not celebrate the holiday my co-workers do and would have liked to be home with their family. I think that people who go out on a holiday should be aware that the people who are serving them are likely giving up their holiday so that they can enjoy theirs and should tip appropriately (as long as the service is good, naturally).

Of course, that's just me. Heaven forbid that a basketball player who is making hundreds of thousands of dollars might want to tip a server more than $1.20 for his order.

1. Agreed!
15% is for standard service to me. If the server is friendly, if the service is good, if the food is good, the tip is higher.

People who tip less haev obviously never been a server (like a pro basketball player). It is hard work.

2. Yes, it is hard
and should be rewarded. Every soul who ever ate or drank in a restaurant or bar should be scheduled for a few shifts. Gives you a whole new outlook.

3. Come now, do you really expect those poor, underpaid, overworked bb ...
players to tip the "help"? It really irritates me that "grown men" get paid so much money to play a game. Now I know they bring in revenue to the city where the teams play, also the licensing fees, etc. ... but really, millions of dollars for playing a game? Not to mention the free college education. (my rant is over now)

4. as a former restaurant manager
i think it is callous to eat out on holidays, just for the factt hat at least on this one day of days people should be able to make do without forcing others to work for them

it bothered me that average people have np reservations about going out and having a good time on the holidays at a club or restaurant and never even thinking about the peoples busting ass to allow them to have a good time

yeah, if you don't have the decency to stay home, at least tip well

6. agreed!
They should tip BIG every day and REALLY BIG on holidays
-when those serving them would sooner be (and should be)
elsewhere.
