We saw "Walk the Line" on HBO. Joaquin Phoenix was amazing!

Reese Witherspoon was excellent, too, but Phoenix really deserved an Oscar for his performance.

Joaquin is an awesome actor and sexy too!

Even if her name wasn't Reese Witherspoon.

MrG and I were both raised up on Cash and it was hard to remember it wasn't really him. Great movie.

but to me, Reese stole the movie. I guess I was surprised that she could take on that role and pull it off so well.

aware of Reese until this movie, and still wish Joaquin the best, but she just SPARKLED in this movie. Perhaps the two were being so true to the characters, but was Johnny CASH ---THAT---much of a depressed zombie---totally WOODEN?

when i was a little kid, loved the music, but as I remember he was pretty stiff.

I do think Joaquiin got gypped by not winning the Oscar. I swear, he was channeling Johnny Cash! Glad you saw the movie, RL!

I'd probably say that Philip Seymour Hoffman got gypped for not winning it for his role in "Capote":shrug: They were both awesome:hi:

Haven't there been tie votes in the Oscars before? That would have been cool! They both would have been rewarded for their excellent performances.

I've loved Reese Witherspoon in everything she has done, even the pictures others didn't like very much.

And I could be totally wrong. Maybe it was the Emmy's or something. Seems that there was a big awards show that had a tie in one of the categories at one time.

Wallace Beery and Fredrich March shared the Best Actor Oscar for 1931-1932. Wallace won for "The Champ" and Fredrich won for the title role in "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde".

Then in 1969 Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand tied for Best Actress of 1968 for their roles in "The Lion In Winter" and "Funny Girl" respectively.

I don't know if there have been any ties in other categories. I know it hasn't happened in Best Picture or Best Director.

I have HBO On Demand and "Walk The Line" is one of the movies they have available to watch whenever you want, so I've seen it a couple of times. I agree, it's a great movie.

this. I should have remembered the 1969 Oscar tie, but as I recall, my ex-husband and I and our tiny daughter were moving from New York City to Miami, Florida. I was pretty busy and may have even missed that broadcast.

I have a bunch of books on the Oscars, so I know quite a bit of trivia.

I did a little searching the other night, and couldn't find anything. I'm glad to know I wasn't imagining things.

I love the music, too, and glad I finally did get to see this film.

Only marred by the fact that the music is so loud that it pissed off my upstairs neighbors so much they called the cops on me! I wonder why some DVDs are like that? I literally could not find a happy medium. I turned it down but then couldn't hear the dialog.

Frequently we turn on the "closed captioning" when that occurs. It's quite helpful, but it does bother some people.

and I just could not believe he sang the songs...how talented that man must be. I really was not a fan before, but wow.

I loved the whole movie -- Reese Witherspoon did a great job but I agree, Phoenix was terrific. Great, great movie.
