5. Song for Insane Times KICKS
It's basically a Soft Machine track, since all his old bandmates guested on it. Goddam I love Robert Wyatt with working legs.

4. I've never heard this album, but it's my favorite cover.
"Cover" meaning the inner gatefold as well.

16. I **LOVE** THAT ALBUM!

That is my first Dan Hicks album. And I bought it having never heard him before, at the age of around 19, in a second hand store. I bought because I remembered reading a hit parade or something magazine when I was around nine with a picture of the whole motley-lookin' crew (seriously, they looked like they were partying into the morning from the night before and couldn't get off the couch if they tried) and I remembered the caption "What ever happened to Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks?"

Were it not for that I may not have been introduced to one of my favorite groups of all time. Memories~! (I did find that one on CD here in the last year but I still got my vinyl!)

17. Dan Hicks is alive and well living in Mill Valley, my old stomping ground
I witnessed his low point during his heavy drinking years in the seventies, but he's much better now and performing pretty regular and I always catch his show when it tours my Podunk area.

My cousin played with Dan and the Acoustic Warriors for awhile and my wife titled one of his songs on his bathroom mirror with lipstick, but she won't let me say which one for her privacy and pride because Dan didn't pay her a plug nickel for the harsh inspiration (it's a long and funny story that Dan wants to forget ;)) so he's pretty popular in our home.

He's got some cool new stuff, but 'Dan Hicks & his Hot Licks - Original Recordings' is still tops in my eyes. I see he has some mixes on CD that have all the good stuff so I may trade up when my vinyl finally dies.

19. Have you heard the sequel? CF&TBDC would be one of those albums
I'd choose if I could only have ten to listen to for the rest of my life.

The sequel: In 2006, John and Taupin released a sequel to Captain Fantastic. According to Eltonjohn.com, the album, titled The Captain and the Kid, "features ten new songs reflecting on the phenomenal success, the sadnesses, the creativity and the optimism within the 39-year songwriting partnership of Elton John and Bernie Taupin."
