ClearChannel: Why limit their destruction to talk radio?
Good ol' Mrs. Amok put the December Harpers in my Christmas Stocking this year...

If anyone is interested, there's a quite good and very revealing article on ClearChannel's nearly monopolistic control of ALL radio formats, not just AM Hate Radio. It also gets into Clear Channel's expansion into live venues, and their control of local governments and subsequent harassment of the competition.

There's no direct link until the current issue is archived, but here's the link to Harpers--lots of good reading this month...

1. The Clear Channel station
I used to listen to when I lived in FL, had the normal Dr. Laura, Rush, Michael Reagan fare...but also Randi Rhodes (in the 3-7 PM slot). If you are not familiar with her, she is definitely one of us. But recently she disappeared from AM radio...curious. Imagine that! She does broadcast on the net though, at www.therandirhodesshow.com. Clear channel owns all kinds of media..even billboards.

2. I really don't think the problem is clear channel
What we need are more dynamic personalities. Seasn Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and all of the big time talk show righties have genuinely likeable personalities. I often scream obscenities at their remarks and positions, but I like them all on a personal level. Especially Sean Hannity. :)

3. There ARE "dynamic personalities" out there. Owners of stations and
program directors won't put their shows on the air.

For example less than five years ago, you could find several progressive, liberal, etc. talkshow hosts in the New York City region. Most of them are gone now and not by their own choice.

6. You scream what?
"Fuckin' A, Sean! You got that right!" or "God damn right, Rush! Fuckin' liberals should all die!"
Hey, nice name you're using. Fits well with your opinions.

8. oh let's give cowpie the benefit of the doubt
I've only seen one cowpie post so far that looked suspect but it was an opinion that any moderate or "blue dog" Democrat might hold too. If he/she's a closet Republican it will come out soon enough.

10. Hannity? HANNITY? Sheesh--on the others I will give you a pass,
but SHit is intolerable. Not the least bit likeable, IMHO.

13. Randy Rhodes was kicked off Clear Channel by none other than...
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 12:40 PM by CanuckAmok
Rush Limbaugh. While Rush claims to be anti-censorship, he flat-out stated that he would pull his show from any station which also carried Rhodes' show. Considering the advertising revenue potential of his hatefest, few station managers had the option of taking a stand against Rush's economic censorship platform.

Yeah, real dynamic guy there. Such a chickenshit he is terrified of any voice of dissent who might break the tenuous grip of falsehoods he uses to influence his moranic sheeple listeners.

on edit: BTW, welcom to DU, Gator in Ontario. I'm from Ontario, too! :toast: :donut:

5. I had an an epiphany...
while making french (freedom?) toast...why not let clear channel write and publish reading books. For example: "See the homeless man. He doesn't have a home, because he refuses to work. If you give him food, you will keep him from finding a job. If you give him money, he will just waste it on beer or drugs. Stay in school, get a job, play the game, or you will be on the street freezing like this bum". whaddaya think?
