I am going nuts...Anyone know why temp. files and back up files with "$"
in their names keep getting saved to my desktop by themselves?
I must have futzed with something but I have no idea how to bury them.... I think it must be autosave stuff... What do I do...

2. Are they by chance from .DOC files you have saved to the desktop?
Many times, the temp files a doc file creates when it is opened will not be deleted for unknown Micro$oft reasons ("it's not a bug, it's a feature!")

Just drag 'em to the Recycle bin and then empty the bin.

3. If you're opening files from your desktop
MS Word will place a $ file on your desktop while the document is currently open. This temp file should dissapear shortly after you close the word document. Make sure word is closed completely before attempting to delete it.

5. interesting... at least i know what the $ files are now...
but why would they be designed to stick and around and crowd things up, I dont get it.... like what is the purpose..... It sucks. All I do is word process, surf and email. Why did all this noise and whackiness. I can only imagine how my folks feel when their pewters fritz...

6. Just be glad...
Just be glad that Clippy doesn't pop up. He'd get himself confused with the Windows Disk Cleanup Assistant and next thing you know...

"I noticed you've got temporary files. Do you want me to delete them?" {clicks 'Yes'}

"Oh, OK. Ooops. Mr. Clippy made a boo boo. I just deleted all your files! :-( Oh well, at least now you've got lots of hard drive space."

"Ooo... I noticed you started typing an angry letter to Microsoft. I'll just make that disappear too, trust me, it's better this way. I feel a General Protection Fault coming on."
