1. According to the priest, rabbi, and minister who just walked into
the bar, no. You should not make jokes about religion.

2. FREAKING HILARIOUS, with what I think is a really nice message...
I don't think it is offensive at all, speaking as a religious guy myself.

It is unbearably funny at parts, and I actually thought the wrap up was touching.

I think its Carey's funniest movie in a long time.

3. I loved it, and I'm deeply (read: thoughtful) Christian.
Besides, the Post-It scene made me laugh so hard that . . .nevermind.

4. It didn't do anything for me
and lost steam as it went. But I don't buy into the god mythos, so the entire premise of the movie was a stretch. I also had a hard time enjoying it as a comedy because I kept wondering why an all-powerful being would give such power to a mortal who only used the power to get back at his enemies, enrich himself materialistically...and get laid (ie: get the girl back).

And all of that happened before the flick went south into sappiness near the end.

My kids thought it was hilarious, but to them, Jim Carrey is Mr Superfunny.

6. They did manage to tie it up well in the end, since
they addressed most of the issues you mention.

One of the things that makes me able to tolerate my Christianity in this day and age is that I have a pretty good sense of humor. Otherwise, the RW fundies would make it nigh impossible.

5. I haven't seen it
but just the fact that Morgan Freeman is God I find infinitely comforting. LOL! :D

8. If religion isn't funny...
then what the hell is?

Seriously, if a religious idea can't take a little laughter then what power does it have, really? I don't believe in any god(s) but if I did I'd like to think he couldn't be bothered by a movie/book/song etc.

As for the movie, I thought it was a piece of crap. Terrible waste of an actor such as Morgan Freeman and yet another chance for Carey to do the frantic mugging, shreiking and face-pulling he uses in place of acting skills. It's really getting very old...

11. He has to--look at what His creations do in His name.
I think He knows we don't need an apocolypse, we're a sufficient Four Horsemen as it is and there are a lot more of us.
