Shock and awe
At 48 and livin' much of that life doin' "hard time," there's not much that shocks and awes me anymore but this one did it. I, Taz, the calm one, the (occasionally) funny one, the one who never contributes to flamebait threads, the one with almost 100 people on ignore to AVOID the flamefests, the one who uses the "ignore thread" feature liberally, just got my first DU Warning letter -- for correcting someone's spelling on a post. What the . . . ????? :eyes:

Sorry, just had to vent on this one.

2. Oh, I usually don't do this
but it was one of those "Why such-and-such a candidate will 'loose' threads." Not like the same frigging thing hasn't been posted a gazillion times before. So, I shoot of a post, just to be a smart ass, "correcting" their spelling and *I* get a warning.

Seriously, I'm not the spelling police. B-) ;-)

5. Seriously? Correcting spelling is now a DU offense?
Did the correctee initiate a complaint against you or was the warning moderator-initiated?

7. Oh, who knows.
The fact that it was a DU "punishable offense" while flamebait threads/posters are allowed to flourish is what interests me. It's kind of like the police going after a jaywalker while there's a murder being committed 5 feet from them. 'Tis a mystery.

6. Hey... it's not your fault that some people are...
...too stupid to hit the "check spelling" button on the edit window.

Don't feel bad about the warning, though. I got my first one the other day for calling Leiberman "Holy Joe." Can you believe it?

9. At the risk of sounding
sanctimonious, surely it wasn't the fact that you corrected spelling but how you did it?

The problem with "loose" instead of "lose" is that checking the spelling won't help. Nor will spell check help with all the people who don't understand the difference between it's and its; they're, there, and their. Not to mention incorrect use of the subjunctive, using the object pronoun form when the subject form should be used and vice versa, and last but not least, not knowing the difference between lie and lay and how those two verbs are conjugated.

Personally, I wish there were an opening for Grammar Bitch (as one friend calls me) on DU and that all posts had to be reviewed for correct grammar, usage, and so on before actually appearing. Sure would cut down on a lot of useless posts.

10. Very interesting. I got one yesterday too.
I wonder if the machine is breaking?
Mine was for posting a graphic of an alternative tombstone with a Star of David on it for Jewish disruptors.
It was removed from one post, but is still there on several others.
Go figure.
I was quite taken aback.

did you appeal?
