Founding Fathers.. What Would They Think About The Current Times?
I was reading an old antique history book of mine (I love old books) and one of the questions in it was about the three biggest advancements in their time (Its a book from 1910) and what would the pros and cons be about those advancements with our founding fathers? What would they say about it, if anything? I just had this image of Abraham Lincoln googling an image of Paris Hilton and checking his email. My God I wonder what would be going through his mind at that time. It would be so surreal to someone who rode a horse to campaign in his earlier days to be able to access someone or something in England without a 30 day ship ride or a cable message. Sorry it was funny to me....but then again I am tired. LOL. I know technically Lincoln was not a founding father with our country but I still admire him deeply. So what do you think the top three advancements of our time would be? And what do you think George Washington would say about it? Thomas Jefferson?
lets hope not. Jefferson would struggle with the emancipation proclamation thats for sure. Mary Chesnut's diary has some comments on that very subject. Something along the lines of " You can watch them, these men, who view themselves ideal husbands and pillars of society while a brood of their mulatto children fill their homes". Its not exact but you get the drift. It was welcomed candor from a southern woman that these white men were not and never would be "ideal" husbands or "pillars of society". Of course that kind of open sentiment was brief....she was a rebel sympathiser who could care less about slavery or their freedoms. She ended up penniless and starving after the civil war and made ends meet by selling eggs and butter with her old servant no less. They split the profits.....now thats irony for ya.
I think the world we live in today would make their heads spin. I seriously doubt most of them would stick around. It would be a one way ticket back to 1776. :)
