Chase Unimpressed by Murray's Acting

Veteran comedian Chevy Chase enjoyed new movie Lost In Translation, although he wasn't so impressed with his old friend Bill Murray's performance. The Fletch actor - who used to regularly appear on TV show Saturday Night Live with Murray - was reportedly overheard commenting on Murray's acting in posh New York eaterie the Meeting House. Chase said, "I liked the movie. But I thought Billy's acting was restrained. I thought it was too controlled." And when a smoke alarm was set off by the restaurant's grill and firemen were called to the scene, Chase had trouble locating his fork, according to website Pagesix. He said, "Waitress? Fire Marshall? Someone? I need a fork.

Personally, I've never been impressed with Chevy Chase; Bill Murray is definately the better of the 2 actors (and funnier to boot). Get off your high horse Mr. Chase!! I think Bill Murray deserves all the recognition he's getting for his performance in "Lost in Translation". I hope he has a chance at a Golden Globe win and possibly an Oscar nomination!!!!!

2. Chevy was best in the first Vacation movie, but even then
the comedy was in the script. Even I could have acted it out and get laughs.

And Chevy's own show on FOX (the only network who'd consider it which is why it got pulled after 3 weeks) proved he's a has been that never was. :-(

Murray is easily the better of the two.

I'll give him credit for trying in his career, but it was either constant bad writing, bad acting/delivery ability, or both. Methinks it's both.

4. I always thought Chevy left SNL too early.
He was the break out star on SNL after the first year and he tried to capitalize on it too quickly IMO.
If he had stayed a another couple of years he may have learned to choose better scripts and break out from his one trick schtick of bumbling character.

8. Chevy admitted that leaving SNL was his biggest mistake...
In a recent interview, he said he left for California because he was 'deeply in love' with a woman. The relationship did not last long.

5. I remember
reading a book about the halcyon days of SNL. Chevy Chase left, probably too early, but Hollywood and movies beckoned to him. I probably would have done the same thing.

Anyway, Chevy Chase came from a well-off, patrician family, and Bill Murray came from an Irish-Catholic, large family supported by their widowed mother.

So, Bill Murray always felt insecure when he first started on SNL. He and Chase even got into a physical fight when Chevy came on as a "guest" after he had left the show.

Now, Murray is an actor of some acclaim, which I agree with, and, what the heck is Chevy Chase doing, anyway?

Funny how Life turns out sometimes.

10. I read the excerpts in Vanity Fair...
It's funny, because everybody in the cast had something n ice to say about almost everybody else, despite the widely known inner disputes between the cast members, but I can't think of one person in what I read who had anything good to say about Chase.

I know someone who did a movie with him about ten years ago, and they said he was an asshole, and very coke-ish, although that could mean anything.

9. Bill Murray has made a number of good films; Chevy Chase has not.

I mean, which film would you rather watch: "What About Bob?" or "Oh Heavenly Dog"?

11. A year or two ago....
Comedy Central showed a Friars Club Roast of Chevy Chase. I think Larraine Newman was the ONLY SNL cast member to show up.

All the "roasters" were downright mean. Tons of references to what a coked-up asshole Chase was in the '70's. I sorta felt sorry for him.

I wouldn't take his remarks too seriously. He probably didn't even know what the heck he was saying as he fumbled about for his fork.

I kinda like both of 'em. Always thought Chevy was at his prine in "Funny Farm" (but it could be 'cause I'm a sap for
