I really want a Chihuahua
My mom got a little tea-cup Chihuahua for Christmas. She already has a male standard Chihuahua that I love dearly. I'd post a pic, but I don't know if I can link to where she has the picture.

I'd like to wait until my youngest is a little older, and then I'll start pestering my husband non-stop for one.

Any other Chihuahua lovers on DU? Post your pics!

3. I gotta say...
i've never loved a chihuahua, and I love dogs. They're just so... so... trembly. I'm not big on any of the teacup breeds.

5. A chihuahua wandered into my backyard once
and I fell in love with her within minutes. I was upset when the owner came calling 15 minutes later.

6. From a converted bigot
Speaking as a former chihuaua disliker (the last dog that bit me was one) I was freed from my state of ignorance by a neighbor's dog in Park Slope, Brooklyn, by the name of "Goldie", who is one of the neighborhood's principal welcomers of both persons and animals, and is an absolute doll to boot. And she's not even "trembly."

7. Get a pug. They are a riot (the good kind)
All the Chihuahuas I've encountered have had yappy barks, but Pugs are too cool to do anything but grrruff-grrruff-grrruff. Incredible personalities.

9. Pugs are the undisputed kings of flatulence
Still a great breed though. Second only to the Boston Terrier. ;)

10. We have a chicuahua X with a jack russell terrier
and it is a wonderful pet. We also have a pappion X with a rat terrier. Along with three cats and we no longer have to go out for entertainment. Just bring home a new toy and we are good for the week, especially when they get the zooms. One night one dog had the tail of the cat and the other dog had the first's dogs tail and it was priceless watching them run through the house. Actually the cat ran and the dogs flew.

11. I've got TWO!!!! Toro, 4.5 years old and Tico, rescue, ~3.....they
are amazing little guys, different personalities. Toro, as our first and spoiled, is very vocal and whiny, while Tico is not as vocal, but grunts and wants constant belly rubs!!

They are not dogs for roughhousing...they play "footsies and handsies" and like to fetch a little, but mostly like a couple of nice walks a day and cuddling under their baby blankets on nice pillows--that are actually cat pillows.

They gang up on Slicker, the stray min pin a finally caught a year ago. He's bigger than they are, but has a very good disposition.

13. Chihuahuas
We've got two, a brother and sister, Fritz and Fiona. They're a year old and we LOVE them to death!! I used to abhor the notion of chihuahuas, but they're such loving and fun little dogs and I love the breed. A warning, teacups are prone to chronic health problems because of their size. They have issues with hypoglycemia and orthopedic issues as well. If they're blood sugar is off, they can have a seizure and die. Breed standard is 4-8 lbs and any end of this spectrum is healthy.

14. The breed was first developed when
some enterprising Mexicans decided to crossbreed a pirahna with a rat. They called it a chihuahua and said, "Sell it to the Gringos; they'll buy anything!"

15. Why don't you get a hamster instead?
Toy dogs are abominations that are so inbred they require constant human care to survive.

16. We have
one of those tiny long haired Chihuahuas. The Vet said if he reaches five pounds put him on a diet. He's a funny little cuss, will bark and raise hell when someone knocks on the door, but runs and hides after we let them in.

18. My son has a Chihuahua, Max.
He is unneutered. When my son brings Max to my house, it's hilarious to see him try to hump my 100-pound Rottweiler.

while the owners were out of town, a Chihuahua-Black Lab mix.

That was one freakin' weird dog. Lovey, but weird.

20. We have a chewie dachshund mix named Joe. When he thought there
was a burglar in the house (a stealthy roommate after all) he ran and hid under the bed.

He wears his sweater 24/7. His best friend is Jack, a Corgie mix. It's that unspeakable love, apparently. They have sleep overs.. Sometimes Jack will stay over here for a day or two and sometimes Joey will have sleepovers at Jack's house.

He sleeps under the covers in our beds. He's pretty useless, but very entertaining.

21. We have a Chihuahua cross
Think he's crossed with a terrier, but don't know for sure since we picked him up from the Humane Society lockup. I call him a pit Chihuahua.

He's got an extraordinary personality, loves kids and people but absolutely hates other dogs, no matter what the size. The Irish wolfhound down the hill is terrified of him ever since he went for his throat. He also decided to attack a coyote and came out worse for wear, but don't know if the lesson has ever really sunk in.

He truly is one of the family; he's big enough so that you won't step on him and kill him, but small enough to sleep in your lap.
