1. Good luck
I got stuck as a juror in a armed robbery trial that lasted two weeks...12 Angry Men indeed. It was a nightmare.

3. It's not so much that I mind doing it...
At times yesterday I was bored out of my mind through the selection process, but it's a new experience and everything since I've never gotten a summons before...it's just that the timing SUCKS. I'm s'posed to go Christmas shopping on Monday, and bake Tuesday and Wednesday.

And now I feel petty. Crap.

Priorities, Lisa, priorities. Gotta get a grip.

There. Better.

:D

a banana cream, pumpkin, cherry cheese, key lime, pecan, pumpkin chiffon, cheesecake, lemon meringue. And then there's the sausage balls and the olive-stuffed cheese balls and the quick breads that have to be baked. And the cheese balls to make...and...

Heh...my kids all seem to disappear until all the cheese is grated, though. I wonder why?

Heh...the olive-stuffed cheese balls are WONDERFUL. Even the kids like 'em. Even the kids who don't like cheese like 'em. They Sound weird, but they're delicious.

you're stubborn that way. ;)

Major family meltdown last night. My sister is inconsolable, my parents are impossible and my eyes are nearly swollen shut. I've been awake since 4am. :( I'm still grieving over the fact that my sister can never come home again unless there's some miracle.

21. Heh...yup, I am
and I will. There WILL be pie and lots of it. Bonehead has about 20 of those 'energy drink' things downstairs...I've never tried one before and don't really believe that they work, but I see a test for them in my future.

OH...after all that hunting around Macy's last night, I finally found the place. Only to find out that they sell tickets to the Pepsi Center up in Denver, but not the World Arena down (up?) here. So I had to go somewhere else. Got there, stood in line forever only to find out they didn't have any. Get in the car again, finally head home and hear that Trans Siberian Orchestra is sold out.

Why couldn't I have heard that commercial BEFORE all that?

I did manage to find him tickets...but they're single-seat so they wouldn't be able to sit together so he doesn't want them.

:eyes:

Awwwwww....I'm sorry, hon. It's going to work out. It's GOING to. And, for the record, I believe in miracles. I've seen a few and I don't know where or when or how...but there's going to be one for your sister. I don't know why, but I just 'feel' it. Hang in there. I don't have to be at the courthouse until 1:00 today if you need me. Even if you don't. I'll have to turn my cell off when I get there, but I'll have it back on again after 5:00.

I'd love to see them live.

Thanks. That means more than you'll know. I'm glad she's got good friends over there and a wonderful husband who loves her dearly. He loves those kids like they're his own and they couldn't have a better stepfather. I always tell him he's not really family, he's more like a hostage... ;)

25. Me too...
I love them. I just don't have that kind of disposable income. Tickets are 43.00 - 58.00 and, this time of year it's just...well...I can't do it.

I'm waiting for Bonehead to call me back and tell me whether they want the tickets or not...he'd better hurry.

I just had to fill out a juror questionnaire thingy last night. I just KNOW I'm going to be called AGAIN. I've never had to serve, but I seem to get called at least every two years.

29. Yeah, but did you get to test the evidence?
I mean...you want to be sure it's what they say it is...what if it was oregano? It's your civic duty to make sure that you reach the right verdict, isn't it?

33. don't i wish--
the rest of the jury had corncobs stuck SOO far up their asses...if i had NOT been on that jury it would have been a totally different outcome. they would've come back with a quilty verdict in 15 minutes...i made them consider the evidence and look at things differently.

you are doing an important job...maybe you should take a pie with you...

i kid but, seriously :patriot:

17. Good Luck, rrr !
I wish i lived close, i would certainly lend a hand in the baking department.

The thing with Jury Duty is the time spent just sitting around waiting. It can get tedious and it is hard not to think about the other 100 activities you could be doing instead. I thank you for honoring you Civic Duty. :toast:

Be well! :hi:

24. Thanks.
I brought a new book and a book of crossword puzzles and a notebook in case I felt creative...but I didn't sit in the jury pool room long enough to use 'em much. Then, once I got up in the courtroom, I hit the jury box right away and by then it would have been rude.

Heh...maybe I should've and then I wouldn't have been selected?

Or I would have just gotten in trouble. I already felt like a kid sitting there waiting while the principal read my Permanent Record so he could decide what to do with me.

28. I always end up meeting a lot of new people
The first time, found a bunch of nice women to go out to lunch with

The second time, the jury-room supervisor kept making disapproving comments about "that group in the corner who seems to be having such a good time" (as if we should all be sitting quietly with our hands clasped).

Sorry the timing sucks, though. That's a LOT of baking!

at least he's got a sense of humor. Which he's gonna need if he's gotta sit next to me for 8 hours, several days in a row. Poor guy.

34. If it makes you feel better, at least it's not a federal Grand Jury
A woman on my jury pool (defendant settled before we were seated) told us the following:

If you're called for Federal jury service, there are NO excuses, no deferrals, no outs whatsoever. You're stuck with serving one day a week for UP TO TWO YEARS!!!! Doesn't matter if you're a doctor, a mom with an infant - there are no outs.

She was juror #12, and went to the bathroom during one very long wait. When she returned from the bathroom, jurors #1 - #13 were gone, called to serve on what she suspected was a 2-year grand jury service (they were trying to indict our Mayor and his cronies). The rest of the potential Grand Jury jurors were sent home (including her).

She said it was the best-timed bathroom break of her life.

36. Yup - the suburban jurors were FREAKED OUT
Some of them had come from pretty far away, and now they had to spend EVERY THURSDAY at the federal courthouse in Philadelphia. There's a decent train system, and the courthouse is only a few blocks from one of the terminals, but still.....

that close to Thanksgiving. I mean, if I was a judge, I would probably have worked Monday, then half a day Tuesday, then recess till the following Monday.

What is this world coming to when jury duty is starting to interfere with the all-important holiday PIE baking! hehe :P
