You'd be doing yourself and them a favor by picking up the phone and telling them you're not interested and to please not call again.
As a B2B sales rep for over 10 yrs, I finally called it quits & am now unemployed. I did my own cold calling and believe me, it sucks. I couldn't take it anymore. Sales is probably one of the hardest jobs out there...I wouldn't recommend it unless you don't mind bugging the shit out of people & taking abuse. There ARE ethical sales people out there. I sold HVAC service contracts and recently, yellow page advertising so I wasn't selling to residential customers but, a "salesman" is about on par with a "lawyer" as far as respect goes even if what they're selling is a genuine need. It can be very lucrative though which is why I stuck with it all these years. The problem is, now I don't know what the fuck I'm gonna do. When you've made it a career, there's not much else to fall back on.
Anyway, just saying...I've been on the other end of the phone so I'm always very nice and considerate to telemarketers but, I know how irritating it is as well. Just nicely tell them you're not interested before they go into their speel & you'll lessen the stress on both sides. I totally appreciated someone that was upfront and honest with me versus avoiding me and stringing me along.
