Recovery -- ha! My large, round, womanly ass this is a recovery!
I live in a city of 310,000 residents.

I just checked out today's classified ads.

There are 44 ads in the Help Wanted section. 33 of those are for jobs *highly* likely to be minimum wage.

Somebody wake me up on January 20th, 2005 when President ABB is inaugurated...PLEASE??

1. And that is different from the past
100 years how?

There are always going to be the shit jobs and there are always going to be ads looking for somebody to work those shit jobs for a shitty paycheck.

9. for crying out loud....
In 1997, when different people were running the country, it took me four days to find a great job. There were dozens of great jobs in the paper every day, not ten.

That is how it's different today. And if you pour water on your head, you'll get wet. And if you touch a hot stove, you'll get burned. And if you stop breathing long enough, you'll die.

This is twice in one day that something on DU has made me vomit. It's time for me to take a nap.

6. Foreclosures and Personal Bankruptcies are at the highest level
since the Depression. Interesting fact heard on headline news, of all places.

3. Unpleasant thought
Does that mean when there finally is a recovery, your ass will become small, squarish, and manly?

4. I've only looked at the classifieds when
certainly family members hold the highest office. My husband and I were unemployed in the 80s and he is now unemployed, out of benefits and I became underemployed on 12/21 loosing one of my accounts to another company. I have applied for three jobs through the classifieds, and feel there are problably a thousand applications for the same position, or that these agenicies will promote from within.

The classifieds today look just like the ones under dad's administration.

7. Preach it, sister!
I can't offer any insight into the economy recovery or lack thereof, but as a lavishly callipygian gal myself (and proud of it!) I just had to say I love the subject line.

10. President ABB.
I like it. It has as good a ring as President (your candidate's name here) does.

12. Trying...to....focus...on....the message...
And not the mental immagery...Hard to do. Lure of LRWA is TOO strong!

310,000 residents, 44 want ads...That sounds pretty bad. But after all, they warned us this would be a "jobless recovery" (I'm still waiting for an explanation of how THAT is supposed to work!)

13. City of Pittsburgh = Flat Ass Broke
The state had to step in and call the city a distressed community to get additional funds.

The AM windbags still preached the gospel of Bushism that day. It was jarring to hear them say how we're in recovery and tax cuts work, then flip the news page and announce the city's drowning in debt.

16. Pittsburgh's main problem
Is that UPMC owns more than half the city, and I'm almost positive they don't pay the full set of taxes any other business would pay.

All the companies get break after break while the people get tax after tax.

Rendell's a Dem so it gives the wingnuts more ammo for the "tax and spend Democrat" cannon.

Of course the Pubbie controlled state gov had to vote to pass all those taxes, but hey Blame the Democrat!

18. The numbers weren't good for shopping
Unless the business was a high end retailer such as Neiman Marcus. Stores like that did wonderful business this season. The wealthy got their numerous tax cuts and spent like crazy. On the other hand, Walmart's sales did not meet expectations.
To me that speaks volumes.
