When Did Problems Become Issues?
I hear this in numerous contexts: where one could use the word "problems," instead one uses the word "issues."

Just two examples:

Mental or emotional problems are issues, as in, "Don't go out with that guy. He has issues."

Traffic reporting, as in, "We have issues on the outer loop of the beltway in College Park . . . on the Wilson Bridge, inner loop, a broken down tractor trailer is causing some issues . . ."

:banghead:

Am I the only one irritated by this?

1. It doesn't bother me.
Although the issues with CT traffic drive me insane.

3. Problems are also "concerns" or "challenges."
Bugs the hell out of me, too. If you've got a goddam problem, don't tell me it's a "challenge" or an "issue." IT'S A PROBLEM, and face up to it and deal with it as such. "Challenge" is a particularly odious example of corporatese. :puke:

7. There are no such things as problems...
(as one particularly assholish boss told me some years ago), only opportunities. That ranks up there with "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet," as grounds for justifiable homicide, in my opinion.

6. Well, that's a no-brainer
Let's be sure we're on the same page here. You've got to think outside the box on this. Take it to the next level. Give it 110%. Get the big picture.

Nope. You're not the only one.

19. I remember when this started
seems fairly recently, but I think it is all to do with the Oprah/Dr. Phil/psychologist of the day world we seem to live in now. Started some years ago. It irks me too.
