Sprint digital or Verizon?
Which cell phone service is more reliable?

I have sprint, but my contract is ending and verizon looks really good right now. $10 less and I get more minutes and more... hopefully verizon-capable phones have better battery life. :D

What would you recommend?

Thx!

1. I have been with Verizon for 4+ years
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 06:11 PM by silverlib
and have had no problems. Their customer service has been very helpful when needed, like the time my daughter messed up her password and replacing a lost phone. They have a great website where you can track incoming/outgoing calls. It's been most helpful to me to track what my fourteen year-old is doing (especially at school). Yes, I'm for civil liberterties, privacy and the constitution, but my teenager is not quite old enough to enjoy some of the rights.

On edit, I was able to put a stop to her web messaging before it got out of hand and she got caught at school.

2. I concur!
For adults, I dig freedom.

For children, that's another story...

4. I have Verizon
and have no complaints. Have had them for about a year. My son has Sprint and he's always complaining about dropped calls. I'm in upstate NY so check the map to see who covers you best.

3. I have tested them all - Verizon is the best network in the Midwest

...and probably the the whole country.

I have a job where I test cell phone/cell network interaction in tandem with testing an embedded cell phone product. Okay, yeah, that's really general, but if I say too much you'll know where I work, and my bosses might read this and get a bit peeved.

So let's just say I've tested the same phone product line on most of the national providers - Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Cingular, and Tmobile. And the best network here in the Midwest and on the East Coast where we do most of our testing is Verizon, by far. Fewer dropped calls, missed calls, and bad audio connections on connected calls. Also fewer "dead" spots in the network.

Several years ago, I had Sprint, but over time their service seems to have degraded. Plus, their user service is horrible - it took me three separate phone calls to get my service completely canceled. Changed to Verizon a year ago an not a lick of trouble.

For another corroborating opinion from JD Power - try this link on CNN/Money from July 2003

5. On several positive recommendations, I just signed up with Verizon today.
Sounds like it was the right choice.

6. Depends on where you live
Sprint is good in major metro areas but not in rural areas. Verizon boasts the largest nationwide network but when I have traveled for work, there are whole areas of the South and Midwest where I would get crap reception. Verizon is great in the Northeast.
