how do you get high without drugs?
I am just posting this on a whim. My demons are hounding me hard like they do this time of year. I need some kind of activity that will give me an adrenaline rush and make me feel alive or something, something that isn't self-destructive. What works for you?

1. Skydiving.
I haven't tried it yet, but a bunch of my user friends went and they all said it was the best high ever.

3. I miss talking to you so much.
I know you are kind of preoccupied, but good to see you :hi:

I guess I need to grow some cojones and try it. I've never really had a fear of heights, so something like that might work for me. And I always get a weird urge to jump whenever I'm on overlooks and stuff...that might just be normal.

5. Yeah, I've just haven't been on DU as much, since the NJ Supreme Court crap.
Anyway, my friends LOVED skydiving and said it was an incredible high. They're all of the drinking/snorting sort.

9. I can't blame you
I get my feelings hurt everytime I venture into GD. I am not tough enough, I guess.

I am crazy about that guy Jeb Corliss who is a base jumper. I've seen that Fearless show they did on him about 5 or 6 times, cause I can really identify with how he talks about feeling inside when he was a kid, before he started jumping. I think BASE jumping looks like a lot more fun that sky-diving, but I don't think you can BASE jump without a lot of sky-dives under your belt.

like a part of the water somehow. I jumped into the Atlantic Ocean when I was age three and now swim almost everywhere we go.

And now, for the current season, I am deal with a rather painful back injury. Doctor has give me Percocet which I've never taken in my life. A couple of those give me a really jolly feeling -- but my husband has told me I take over the conversation when we are with friends... Oh, well.

4. running works for me, it's the only kind of exercise that ever has.
unfortunately, my legs are messed up and I can't do it anymore. I think I might have figured out the problem though, I've been walking around in unlaced tennis shoes for the last year (I always wore some form of boots until recently) and I suppinate a little anyway, and I think I just made the problem worse. I love running. I dream about it on a regular basis. I also like working out with weights but it doesn't send me over the moon like running does. :hi:

10. wow.
that really, really warmed my heart. I need that so much, you just don't know. Well, actually you do, and that makes it more special.

It's not the holidays, it's the weather this time of year, because when I was young we were always out and running around the countryside camping and hiking and doing other stuff (cough, cough) this time of year. I love this weather...I was out in walking today the rain was stinging my face and it was so frigid and windy and I just LOVE IT. I feel really alive this time of year, more than any other, but I get this energy inside me I don't know what to do with.

thanks for the pretty flower, it's been a while since anyone's sent one of those my way (self-imposed isolation, though, so I guess it's my own fault).

thanks for the clip too, I haven't seen that in a while... another

8. Skateboarding.. I doubt that will work for you..
Running is awesome, A group of my friends (myself included) quit smoking by running until we dropped when we needed a smoke. But, running is out. Do you have a pool with a high-dive? Diving from fifteen feet is a rush. And low impact.

12. I have skateboarded in the past and I really like it
that is actually a fun suggestion. I never worked up to doing any tricks, though, but it was fun. I used to rollerblade too, me and my ex would rollerblade around her appartment complex in the middle of the night but she ended up with my skates. Hmmm, extreme sports...I'll have to look into that area :)

And is free of stray rocks.. Scoot around and have fun. You might want to invest in pads. You will fall even if you just roll around. Remember, fall on your hands if you can't roll.

17. I haven't been on a skate board
in probably ten years if not more, but if I don't do something really, really soon I'm either going to go out of my mind or pick up some very bad habits from the past that don't need to be revisited. I definitely need something that puts me at risk of injury, even if it's just scrapes here and there. Nothing like a little bloodshed to make you feel alive, lol.

15. Hmmm...

Meditate in a room with little to no draft and observe the smoke from a single incense stick curl in the air as it burns. Or just plain ol' meditate. Gather up the positive energy that you have and send it out with love into the universe.

Alternately... lots and lots of caffeine.

Me, I'm up still working on my famous rice dish to take to our Thanksgiving gathering later today. It's an awesome rice dish and everybody loves it, but it's soooo labor intensive. It's brown and wild rice cooked in veggie stock, with organic ('cos they're sweeter) pecans and different savory-kinda veggies (onions, broccoli and celery are standard, sometimes I'll throw in other seasonal stuff with a complimentary flavor, like sweet potatoes work pretty well) and herbs (lots of fresh cilantro and basil) and extra-firm tofu all chopped up real tiny so everything just blends. But I don't have a food processor, so I have to do all the chopping by hand and it takes six hours, minimum. Gads. So I'm entertaining myself by singing Broadway show tunes loudly and off key, and when that ceases to be amusing and I am overcome with the urge to launch handfuls of finely chopped veggies at the wall, I hop on DU for a few.

Yeah, I'm a nut.

Bless your heart... I would definitely be lobbing veggies at the wall, lol. I love fresh herbs, and cilantro is my favorite.

I just baked brownies, lol, nothing elaborate like what you are making. I will be having the traditional southern thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, which is just a dead bird (which I won't be eating), overcooked vegetables, and everything else starchy.

I am imagining that, it sounds great. You are the bomb. :headbang:

29. Yeah baby, I can go for six hours.

Chopping vegetables. With the occasional DU post to sustain me. Heh.

Well the other reason it takes so long is because I'm making a double batch. Which is nine pounds of finely chopped food, yikes! And yes I know that for a fact, because last time I made it I was laughing at how heavy the bowl was when I was finished, so I weighed it and then later I weighed the empty bowl.

Yeah, I was thinking about you for tomorrow. Good luck, and hugs to go with you. Let me know how it goes.

Well, Stephanie Mills and me gotta go Easin' On Down The Road now...

Since you appear to be a "lead" you will find your services much in demand as long as you shower, brush your teeth and show up to classes regularly. You will be rotated among smiling happy "follows" until one of 'em decides to keep you.

Even as a kept man you are allowed to rotate as long as it's on the dance floor. Gets the fluids moving so to speak.

Mountain biking is a blast and very addictive. You will always be suffering if you do

If you live near hills even better.

60. Diving (though not just something you can go and do) or any outdoor activity
As far as I am concerned, Nature has provided me all the cathedrals I need...if you get out amongst it you can feel as alive as you really are and might even stumble across a spiritual experience along the way. Go for a hike, if you can, or even just a drive in the country. Sit by a waterfall...hell, if you can handle the icy temperature, sit UNDER a waterfall for even a few minutes (it'll give you an adrenaline jolt, for sure, and wash away any damned demons).

The whole world is out there, and your corner of it offers every opportunity for adventure and for feeling fully alive if you just look for it from the right angle. Don't settle for less, or worse, please...
