Holy shit, do i love The Decemberists
I'm listening to some tracks from their latest album "The Crane Wife" and all I have to say is...

this. band. is. amazing.

almost as amazing as R.E.M. But no one can fill the enclave R.E.M. has in my heart :loveya:

Anyways, The Decemberists are terrific... :)

4. Why do you hate America
I mean how can you pick the enemies of freedom? Colbert told me that they were evil, and I do everything that he says.

5. Valencia a a
My favorite track is the one with Laura Veirs, who is an amazing songwriter in her own right.

If you like the Decemberists, check her out.

I confess to having listened to The Crane Wife twice today.

7. I love singing along with that one.
"But oh, did you see all the dead of Monassis, all the bellies and the bones and the bile?

No, I lingered here with the blankets barren and my own belly big with child."

8. They are my second-favorite band...
(Arcade Fire is first, if you are wondering. But I still do not have Funeral...)

I have both Picaresque (which is awesome) and The Crane Wife (which is also awesome). I adore both of them, and I want all of their CDs. I hear them a lot on my last.fm station, as well. I especially love "The Infanta," (my favorite Decemberists song so far) "Odalisque," "The Bachelor and the Bride," "We Both Go Down Together," (love singing along to that one) "Eli, the Barrow Boy," (makes me cry) "The Bagman's Gambit," (also makes me cry) "The Crane Wife 3," "On the Bus Mall," (lurrrvely) "The Perfect Crime 2," (yes, I like TPC2, I love the "funky" sound) "The Engine Driver," "Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)," (another favorite to sing along with) "The Crane Wife 1," (another tear-jerker) and "Sons and Daughters," (which is my favorite track off The Crane Wife and yes, also makes me cry, but it's happy crying). Man, I could go on... Actually, I have not yet heard a bad song by them. I even like "The Perfect Crime 2," and "When the War Came," which seem to be the "black sheep" of The Crane Wife according to the decemberists.com message board.

So anyway, yeah. The Decemberists are made of win.

10. I got Picaresque a few months ago.
It's a terrific album, and the band is awesome. I think what I like most about them is that they're so smart. No apologies for being intelligent, no dumbing down the songs to appeal to the Masses.

I got turned on to them by a friend who heard me listening to the Weakerthans, another of my favorite groups. Same thing with them -- smart, catchy songs, great lyrics, and brains brains brains behind the instruments.

I'm going to have to get me The Crane Wife and give it a listen.

12. Yeah, they are good.
It's too bad you never hear them on the crappy "regular" FM stations.

I hear they are from Portland, OR, where my son and his SO live. I'm going out for a visit... wonder if they will be in town then?

15. They get played on an FM station I listen to.
http://947.fm">94.7 Alternative Portland. It's where I first heard of them--they had "Sixteen Military Wives" on regular rotation about two years ago and I fell in love with it (it was the kind of song where when I first hear it I think "OMG I have to know who that is!"), and now they play "O! Valencia." In fact I probably would never have heard of them if I hadn't heard them on the radio. Because 94.7 is made of win.

Give it a listen if you haven't.

I also like Los Angeles, I'm Yours from their second album.

16. IIRC...
"The Bachelor and the Bride" is on that one, if I'm not mixing that up with Her Majesty. I love that song. I want both of them anyway...

19. I agree, awesome band.
Picaresque was one of my favorite albums of last year. I like the Crane Wife, but so far it hasn't hooked me as much as the other one did.
